I just finished feeding my betta some frozen bloodworms. Not 2 minutes after he finished eating, I saw something start forming on his belly. It started freaking me out, because from far away it looked like a large droplet of blood, so I got closer to investigate. I soon discovered it was a HUGE poo that he was struggling to get out. I felt so bad for him, but I couldn't do anything. It was about 1/4 inch long, and wider than his eye. It dangled from him for a while, and I was going to get on here and ask what I should do to help get it off, but just then I accidently bumped the table he is sitting on, spooked him, and it fell off.

I think I know a certain betta that's going to be getting some peas in his near future.

Look at that thing! My fish is going to get hemroids!

Oh my, poor lil' guy...maybe you should have given him a newspaper.
(Sorry, I know it's not funny for him but I just had to :p )

Oh my. Ouch.

Heh, he looks a tad overweight; maybe the giant poos are from overfeeding? You're right about feeding peas though - if he's churning out logs like that, it might be best to fast him and give him some peas until his BMs are more normal.

Gorgeous fish, by the way.

Yikes crickey  poor fishie bet I bet he feels a WHOLE lot better now

Yea, he acts like he feels a lot better now!

I don't think it's from over feeding. I feed him up to 3 times a day, 2 pellets on average for each feeding, unless he acts like he is really hungry, in which case I give him 3 pellets. I think I will fast him for a few days to make sure his system clears. I have some frozen peas that I will prepare for him.

Thanks RandomWiktor

poor lil guy. good thing hes better now. IT may just be me but that seems like a tad bit tooo much food to me. I give my bettas one pellet 3 times a day

Oh really? Ok, I will try giving him just 3 pellets a day and see how that goes. Can't hurt anything. Thanks!

Feeding should always depend on the amount of activity a betta gets, as well as tank temp ;) 3 pellets is good for some bettas, and 10 might be good for others. My boys are in 82 degree average water, large tanks, with a fast current - they usually get at least 8 pellets a day, and two are on the thin side - clearly, they need more food, even though your average betta may only need 5 pellets a day.

What kind of tank is your fella in, Catlover? Perhaps you can merely adjust his feeding to his tank size, temp, and current. I would still go wish a few days of fasting and peas though; constipation can be life threatening! And he's too cute to lose to something like that

He is in a 1 gallon with no current that stays around 77 degrees. All this time I thought I was almost under feeding him, but with constipation I guess not! This is the first time he has ever been constipated and I've had him about a year, so I guess that is good.

Thanks for all your help!
