I am trying to find some information on a new fish i have, I did ask the LFS if fish was suitable for my tank and other fish I have, and he is fine for my set up.

But when i have got home to look him up, i cant seem to find him on the internet.

Can anyone help. I thought they said his name began with a 'P', but my little girl was playing up and she diverted my attention.

Thats a Pangasius hypophthalmus, known in the US as a irredecent shark. They get BIG and can grow to over 3 feet in the wild though 18" is more likely in a home aquarium, they are active swimmers and very easily spooked so need a huge tank, one of 8x3x3' would be the minimum for a adult fish over 10 inches.

These are a fish that should not be available in the hobby.

My tank size is 480 litres/105 Imp Gal. (5ft long)

Why should these fish not be kept as a hobby?

I usually speak to the guy who runs the LFS but he was not in today.

Just to reitterate what CFC said,
THIS is what that little fish will become.

This fish grows FAST!
Is your tank big enough?

The reason that these fish should not be available is because very, very few people have the huge tank needed to home one properly for very long.

Wow he is a monster fish,
I had seen one in another fish shop local to us and he was big - but not to big, and he has been there for years.

I wont be taking that guy's advice again, I only have a few other fish in the tank as i like big fish - but not that big.

Thanks

Its really sad that you cant trust what the LFS says.

This is my first mistake, usually i find them quite helpful, and set up has run well. Have been keeping fish for just a couple of years now.
