Is $25 too much to pay for this Amazon Double Tail? On www.bettaboys.com he's listed as being Grade C. Is grade C a specific standard in betta circles, or is it just an internal rating system that Betta Boys came up with? They also have a Grade A Amazon Double Tail priced at $50!!! Also, it seems to have a longer double tail than most double tails that I've seen... is this sort of a combination of Doubletail and Veil tail? It also looks somewhat crowntailish too. I would think that Double Tail x Veil Tail would give you Veil Tail. What would you get with Double Tail x Crowntail?

I'm also interested in another fish on their site, a Velvet Rose Super Delta, but I think he's around 10-11 months old. Does anyone think this is too old to purchase?

$25 is way too much to pay for that fish if you ask me, but that's only if you're looking at it by breeding standards. It does have a very interesting look, but generally caudal spread is prized in bettas, and that fish has very poor caudal spread equivalent to that of a veiltail. I'd actually call him a veil doubletail. Compare with the much fuller finnage of this fish on Aquabid (who is only $10, I might add). I'm willing to bet those "crowns" on his tail are just damage from the growout tank, though it's not uncommon for the rays of veiltails to extend past the fin webbing on the dorsal and anal fins.
Yes, breeding veil to DT gets you veil with some veil DTs in the 2nd generation, and breeding DT to CT gets you all singletail, some with combing and some without, with some DT CTs in the second generation.

It would be ok to get the velvet rose at that age, but if you're planning to breed it you'd have to work quick, because once it's a year old it's past its prime. Personally, I think you should browse Aquabid a bit before deciding where to spend your money.

Neither of those fish are worth $25. I'm going to go out on a limb and say Grade C woudl be the fish a breeder sold off to pet stores, for lack of anything else to do with them.

That rose one..looks like a veil with a short tail to me, just mho.

Those are definately NOT top or quality bettas imo.

Take her advice..go to Aquabid....they have much nicer fish for alot better prices.

i kind of doubt i'd even buy that fish in a pet store...definitely not worth $25 imho. for that amount you can get a much nicer fish. i wouldn't buy from bettaboys period. their stock is poor quality and overpriced

yeah i'm the one that bought from them before... was just searching their website again... actually was considering getting some more of the baby moss balls (Chladophora) and those 2 caught my eye... at this point, probably wasn't going to buy anymore fish any time soon... I usually don't even like double tails but for some reason that one was interesting to me. Thanks for the comments!
