My New 90g

Wow, that looks like an intense algae situation you've got goin on over there. Do a massive water change, redo both CO2 bottles (add another if you have only one) then dose the hell out of the tank. meanwhile try to get around 5 to 7 ottocinclus and see if you can find any siamensis or shrimp.

I had the same staghorn (and what seem like every other algae known) problem a while ago. That was when I was slacking on changing CO2 and not dosing and I didn't have any proper algae eaters. Once I got the siamensis the staghorn went away but I've been able to kindof control the algae (like an infant controlling an 18-wheel semi truck w/out power steering) by dosing powdered ferts. Good luck with your ventures! BTW here's a pic of some of the previous devestation:

Unfortunately i can't add another bottle of co2... im running at 38mg/l already, and I've had deaths due to a higher number.

I need to up my nitrates as they are 0. I'll be ordering some dry ferts from the net next week if I can't find any locally.

I have 3 SAE's, 3 gold bristlenoses, 1 CAE. I had 3 otos, but they went when the co2 was too high.

I change the co2 every thursday without fail. so that always stays constant.

Thought I would post a new picture of the tank. It's looking good right now, but I think I am going to change the foreground plants... im not sure I like them now.
But anyway... thats later.

the white haze is clearing up... not sure why, but I don't really care... its going, and that's all i care about.

Any suggestions for plants that would do well in the front there?

sorry not the answer your looking for but blimey your swords a bit feisty.

i can count 6/7 new plants growing on that stem, great stuff. are you going to plant them a little further down the line?

and i'm glad the haze is going, that really does get annoying after a while especially after such hard work on the tank.

There are actually 8 on that stem, possibley 9 now. I dont know if I will have room for them all in my tank, but the mother plant isn't doing too hot right now, so once I have a few more on there, and are a decent size, I will plant a few back in that spot, then maybe see if I can sell them too my lfs, or on aquabid or here - I don't want to make a million bucks off them... just the shipping and a little extra for me.

So if anyone is looking for some swords....let me know :hey:

well for the cloudiness use 'PROQUATICS-WATER CLEARIFIER"

its made by petsmart so you can pick it up there, it clears tanks in less then 4 hours guearenteed.....

i have used it a couple of times and works very well, clears up all the muck and reduces some stuff .....

oh and :kewlpics:

I'm not a big fan of using more chemicals than necessary in my tank. The cloud isn't enough for me to really worry about at this point. I've had it,and green water, and I'd much rather look at this. The fish aren't bothered, and the plants are doing well, so I'll see if i can't get it to go away with water changes and other little tricks I can try.

But thanks for the info!

Is that dwarf saggitarius? not the star sign :) um...yeah whatever it is it looks like it's doing really well and looks great. Why don't you make a carpet out of it?

Tank is looking great btw.

Thanks houndour.

The carpet plants is actually Echinodorus angustifolius (or something like that). I was sold it thinking it grew to a max of 2.5 inches... and the more I look into it, it could get up to a foot, which is way to tall for what I want. I may plant it along the back of that section where it already is if i can find a nice short carpeting plant to fill in the front. Something that I can trim. Apparently I can't cut the stuff I already have as it will damage the plant. Any thoughts on that anyone? Maybe I could try it out on one section and see what happens.

I love the look of that hair grass, I wonder how difficult it is to plant in sand...

on second thought... maybe I'll pull the crypts that sprouted on the right of the echin. and move some of it's runners over that way and let it all fill in... if its longer than it is not I guess it's not a huge deal. I can always move things around afterwards.

I love that clover stuff... short, with just 1 tear shaped leaf... maybe I could plant that in the very front.

I'll have to go hunting on the net for plants.

How about glosso? seems to be the latest craze...that could be the clover like one you're thinking of.

I'm giving glosso a go in my new 5 gallon.

Hair grass is great, but I haven't had any luck with it. Mine seemed to grow at the same rate as dying so it did not spread. Might be my params that were a problem tho. Was lacking in CO2 and nitrates at the time. Hair grass is fine in sand btw. unless that was the problem :S I doubt it though.

Thanks for all the kind words everyone. I can't believe the tank has only been running for 3 months... It seems much longer than that.

A few more pictures. I moved a few plants around in an attempt to get the echindorus to spread out a bit more and fill in that whole middle section.
