I just got some shots of my Spike tails spawning. It is such a beautiful sight. When I was watching it felt like I had my very own nature show right in my living room

The female has been dropping quite a few eggs. I saw her drop about 8 just now and the male picked them all up and put them in the bubble nest inside the log.

Here are 4 pictures :D

And last but not least :*) In this picture you can really tell whos the male. He's the one with the really orange throat.

I hope you enjoyed the pics ;)

 Excellent! Wonderful shots! Thanks for sharing this! I saw some pictures of another person's spike-tails on here, and decided I wanted some down the road, now that I've seen these shots, I REALLY want some and might just a plan a tank around them. Keep us posted if you get a successful spawn there.

They really are just too gorgeous  They must be becoming quite popular in the trade. I've heard a lot about them this month after never hearing anything..

Good luck with the spawn

I just saw your thread in general chit chat so came over to take a look at the pics - absolutely beautiful! I also didn't wish you luck before so... Good luck with raising the fry!!! :D Your fish are lovely.

Those are awesome pics!!!! :hyper: They're so clear and perfect! Beautiful fish too, and congrats on the spawning!

Thanks everyone :D

Well I just checked on them now and it looks as though dad has moved the nest. Some of the eggs have hatched though because I saw a tiny fry fall from the bubble nest and quickly swim back up in it

I don't think I can raise these guys though. I don't really have any food to feed them that will be small enough. Plus I've got to move dad and mom out once the fry are free swimming and I don't have too much room in any of the other tanks to move them too -_-

I feel bad because it is an awesome thing to happen but in all honesty I think it would be best if I left the parents in the tank and they ate most of them if not all of them. Maybe some would survive on their own?

Well anyways heres a pic of dad and his new nest with the fry (can't see them though).

edit: Seems that the father is eating the fry from the nest. It's sad to see :-( I like how my cichlids actually raise their fry.

It was for the best anyways. Still makes me a bit sad :-( At this point I'm not ready to be raising their fry so any future spawnings I'll just destroy the nest like you suggested. Maybe one day I will raise a batch of their fry.
