Hmm. thats a thought. I have this plant... do you think I can trim that, or will I damage it?

I would say that it would damage the leaves in the same way as Sagittaria.

I can only assume that trimming hairgrass is ok because the "hairs" heal themselves quite quickly due to their small size - plants with a larger, more complex leaf structure probably cannot heal so well and therefore suffer accordingly.

that's a type of chain sword right? from my experience, trimming leaves is a no-no....give the plants on the runner time to root then remove the runner - or you can wait for the plant to remove itself from the runner per se
 
The runners have really taken off recently. I have about 5 on each of my plants. I'm in no rush to make them grow any faster. I just can't wait to see how they look in a big carpet!
 
Heres the grass in my tank... The plants have gone a little wild while I've been waiting for my new tank.

the second pic is with a ruler in inches, so it's looking like 3 inches at the tallest.

That's great. Nice tank BTW - when your E angustifolias spreads it will look awesome. I'm considering adding another foreground plant between the hairgrass and bogwood to give more depth, sounds like it may be a candidate for the job - does it tolerate any shade?
 
Thanks. Right now it is very shaded by my amazon and my val. I haven't seen quite as much growth recently. I don't know if that is because it's time to change my CO2, or if its the shade. I really like the plant. I was searching for it forever, and finally saw it at my lfs one day. I only bought 2, but i'll have to get more for the bigger tank.
 
Its coming on nicely still and the hair grass looks stunning!

Great thread guys and well done gf225, your tank is beginning to look amazing, the planting is really beginning to mature, ive read through this whole thread for about the last hour and a half, following links and everything and it really has been an inspiration for me, so i hope you dont mind if i occeasionally ask a couple of questions as im getting a tank built (or probably going to build it myself as it wont be a standard size, probably be 29L x 16w x 18H) with the intention of planting the tank.

But ive learnt a lot allready from reading through the thread, but your project looks great, keep posting pics.............well done again :)
