Glass Shrimp

A couple of pics of some of my Glass Shrimp. The first one is without flash. There is one on top of the rock and one to the right of the hole - that one is busy tucking into a Hikari Crab Cuisine pellet which they all seem to love.

This pic is of the one on top of the rock - I used the flash to try and get a bit more detail.

Wow I like the 2nd picture!! How big can they grow?

Anything between 1.5cm (3/4") and 6cm (2 1/2") for most types of Ghost or Algae Eating shrimps.

Some of the Filter Feeding (Fan) shrimp can get up to 15cm (6") in size. I have a Blue Armoured shrimp which is about 2" to 2 1/2" long - it is very nocturnal though so I rarely see it out in the open.

R they marine or tropical freshwater? They r so cute! Do u keeep them on their own or with other fishies? I'm afriad if I am to keep some, my fishies will eat them!

All of mine are fresh water - I would love to have a marine invert setup as they are so much more colourful.

I first tried some amano/glass shrimp in my community tank but they quickly disappeared. It may be that they are still in there but are very good at hiding but I think it is more likely that they became food.

Next was the big armoured shrimp which is in my largest tank and is too big to get eaten but he tends to stay in his own little spot all the time anyway.

I have now a small tank with a few amano/glass shrimp in it (from two different sources) and three long arms - no fish. I might be moving a couple of the long arms to my 'small fish' community tank at a later date as I think they are getting too big for the small tank.

I think your clown loaches would think 'Yum, Yum' and I doubt that the crabs would appreciate the competition for floor space......

I have a crayfish (free) in my tank and I love to watch him when he roams around for food with all of those little feet. If I had a digital camera, I would show you. But I'm against digital, being a photographer and all. I think it takes away the art aspect of picture taking. But don't get me started on that.
