Hi everyone,

Please help and QUICK, My angel fish's fins look terrible! I have noticed my gold sevrum chasing him a little and nipping him! But i have read the symtoms of fin rot, and it kinda looks similar. My sevrum doesn't annoy the other two angels in
the tank just this one! he is the slightly bigger angel!
His fins look almost like when you break or cut nylon like white where they have been torn or broken, poor thing looks real scruffy!, even his tiny side fins by his eyes are looking terrible one sides bigger that the other.
If your diagnosis is fin rot what do i buy? and how do i treat him, if you diagnos this as nipping? what do i do?

Thanks

I have more pics but am unable to attach, if you wanna see them let me know how to do it.
My other fishs fins are all fine in perfect condition

Can you issolate the fish, does it look like the fish could have any other ailments as sometimes finrot can be a secondary infection, can you post water stats and what size tank.

I am unable to give you the water tests at the moment because i am at work, I have no PC at home, and don't own another tank, its friday here in NZ so I won't be able to get anyones advice over the weekend! and I don't wanna loose this fish!
Am i able to treat him while hes still in the community tank?

Hi Rox-e :)

Whether its problem is that he was nipped or has finrot, it's going to be necessary to isolate him for awhile to keep him safe and give him a chance to heal. Then you can decide what to do with him permanently.

You should be aware that it's entirely possible that both are the problem. Fish get finrot, which is a bacterial infection, from any of a number of things that lower their immune systems by causing them stress. Having aggressive tank mates is one of these things. To further complicate matters, fungus is likely to take hold on wounds, and it looks a lot like some forms of bacterial infection.

I suggest you move him to a separate tank and tread him with a medication that is intended to cure both bacterial infections and fungus. There are a number of good ones on the market, but since you live in New Zealand, I don't know which are available to you.

I hope he gets well soon! :D

Hi Rox-e :)

You might not actually need a medicine, but then again you might. It's possible that a period of time by himself, with lots of nice clean water and some peace and quiet, will work wonders. However, if you see anything that looks like his skin is sloughing off, or fuzzy white growths, or pink ulcerated patches, you will need to treat him for sure.

Can you get Interpet's Anti Finrot and Fungus medicine? I've heard that it's a good one. If not, explain what you want, and your lfs will be able to advise you what to get. :D
