orfe colouration change

i have a pond that contains around 15 orfe of varying sizes from 4" to 15"

2 of the larger ones have changed colour...

one has gone almost white and the other has developed green mottled spots all over

any idea what it is

still feeding, still swimming all seems well

hi macky long time no see,
there are three types the Golden Orfe, Blue Orfe and Blonde Orfe.
that might explain the white one as for the green mottled spots maybe somewhere down the line its been crossed with something and the colours are just showing through now i have a couple of crosses which i think have orfe mixed in

hi bri

the orfe changed colour over a few days.....

they are mature fish of around 15" long

will try and get some pics for ya and post them here

I shouldn't think its anything to worry about. Larger orfe will often develop a mottled colouring on the top of their bodies. As long as there are no signs of illness and they are feeding ok I'd just keep an eye on them. Pictures will help though.

just been out and took a few snaps so u can have a look

pics aint great because the light was going but heres a pic of it under a regular coloured orfe

and here on its own

just a thought macky but what you feeding them ,as ive noticed a few fish while at work in other peoples ponds have reverted to normal colour due to feeding wheatgerm over the winter instead of the orange pellets

they seem to find there own food m8

they eat the odd pellet i feed the sturgeon but the pond is full of
bloodworm and shrimps and i see them taking flys of the surface occasionally
the floating pond pellets they ignore

anyone heared of this?

is it common?

will it harm the fish?

I doubt it was growing, more than likely got caught on the scales.
had you not removed it, yes it could've harmed the fish
and yes it is a common occurance

I haven't heard of blanket weed getting under the scales of the fish on a common basis but as long as it doesn't pull the scale away from the body and cause wounds it is fine. Fishes behavior tells you alot about how they are feeling, if they have a disease for example they will often seem lethargic and have a lack of appetite, if your fish are acting well and feeding well I wouldn't worry much, just keep an eye on them.

As for the Orfe, I have seen them with that colouration but haven't heard of them changing overnight.

the weed hasnt been caught under the scales as 90% of the fishes scales has green weed strands coming out from the base of the scale
if you rub the weed it dont come off so it must be rooted

its very odd!

i'll try get some pics of this fish if i can catch the booger! again

which i think have orfe mixed in is what i said , for one they may be london shubumkin but there not true to the type ,there the wrong shape and the colour definition isnt right ergo i think they have orfe mixed in
