Bug in froozen foods

well in my froozen river shrimp i'ved found small fish and snail before but this one is a new one for the books and not too happy at all.

i doubt it can do any harm being froozen and all but still it can't be good.

could someone give me a ID on it......i'ved seen them but can't remember.

it's also not what you want to be holding in your hand sifting through the froozen getting it defrosted.

i think its a type of cricket. it looks fimilair to the one on the show with that crazy aussie dude HTH.

I believe that's a caddis-fly larvae, a vicious little critter and an effective ambush hunting micro-carnivore.

On the underside of its head you can see it 'extendo-jaw' which can shoot out to grab passing small fish, tadpoles and other aquatic life.

It also builds a shell to hide in made from tiny stones stuck together with silk.

These live in the same enviroment as river shrimp so it was probably harvested along with the shrimp. As it's dead, it is harmless.

I had a 3-spine stickleback in a batch of river shrimp once!

Ita nor a cricket or a caddis fly larvae.

Caddis fly larvae build themselves little homes out of twigs leaves pebbles stones etc. They also don't eat other insects they are passive herbivores.

That my friend is a dragonfly nymph. A very deadly creature that uses its mask (Extendo-jaw) to reach out and capture passing by insects and fish.

thanks for the inputs, yeah i'ved seen those nature shows and was thinking...it's 1 of them!! you see them shhot out and get lil fishies and such like, not too pleasant.

I'm not sure on the make as they come in clear trays, all our other food is ruto.

I once had a load of small purple coloured jelly fish in a bulk bag of lance fish, that was pretty yuck :sick:

As long as it's dead , and was frozen fresh , I don't see any harm in feeding it up to your fish .

When used live black worms I remember getting small leaches in with them , those were no way going into my tank , talk about yuck .

hmmm will fish eat jelly fish!?

in the live food bags i'm often pulling out th8ings that look like anchor worm

to say the least i don't risk finding out so are out straight away.

when my fish and shrimp run out this time round i'm going to the fish monger to get some instead.

I didn't mean the jelly fish ,but the dragonfly larva , not sure if that is what you were taliking about , Paul .

Hitch hikers are why sometimes froozen food is best .

I have no idea what it is, but if I found that in my fish food I probably would vomit all over the place. That's disgusting! :sick:
