help needed on brown water please guys

Do you have bogwood in the tank. It leaks tannins for ages if not treated.
 
Yep, i can't think of anything else that causes brown water, its got to be bogwood or something similar in the tank.
 
thanks guys i removed my bogwood and it seems to have cured it after 2 30% water changes im getting there thanks guys i can see my babies again now
 
Black carbon would of removed it if you have it in your tank.
 
Soak it in boiling water several times, that should remove the tanins causing the brown water.
 
i kinda thought so ... ive changed to slate now and im happy with it

My bogwood eventually stopped leaking but took some time. Even though the brown water is overly attractive to look at, your fish prob feel more at home in it and safer.

the bog wood is an essential feeding ground for plecs if you have any. bog wood can be soaked for up to two weeks before all the colour is removed.

i also like the colour it turns the water - in a well stocked, natural live planted tank it gives a very nice effect and the fish generally seem calmer.
