Hello,

My plants arrived yesterday but I had to pick them up this morning. They look fine and I'm dead chuffed with them.

I've put them in my tank, but I don't have a clue!!!

I've pushed the ones with roots into the substrate. And the ones without I have left floating for now, so I still have a fair few background plants to plant.

hopefully a pic is attached.

Would love to hear any ideas. I think I've designed it terribly and before I have another go I will wait for my boyfriend to come home cos its hard to see what it looks like from above :)

Sam

Edit:
Thought I'd describe the tank cos the pic isn't brilliant.
On the left I have Vallis (I think).
I've put all the small plants in the foreground on the assumption that they'll stay small.
I think I've got Amazons(?) near the bogwood and to the right of the bogwood.

My vallis is hiding the CO2 thing that the bubbles go through. But I'd like to hide the filter and heater too. Any suggestions? Remember I have lots of stem plants to plat yet so I guess I could move stuff already at the back to the middle and put all the stems at the back?

I've got some plants that all look the same, should I plant them separately or put them all close together so they grow into what looks like one plant? I'm talking about the ones with roots already (not the stemmed ones).

Hi sam, plants look great, do you know how big the once at the front grow, the trouble is it always looks nice when i plant nice new small plants but they sometimes get to big and long and straggly, they look real healthy though, bet you are pleased. di

I have absolutely no idea! I bought one of these combi packs cos I don't have a clue and I thought I could just find out which ones grow well in my tank and which ones don't. I've got a catalog with the plants...so just need to match up the names then I can do my research :)

Today I spent a few hours trying to arrange my plants :( It's not going well. I've bunched together all my stemmed plants so I can see what I've got and tried to place them all but I just can't get it looking nice. Do I have too many species? Should I wait and see what thrives in my conditions?

I have CO2 with 55 Watts of light for a 19 gallon (22 US gallon) tank.

Here's another pic with all the plants that were floating before included in the pic.

Sam

It will takes weeks to realise what plants do well in your set-up (lighting, water parameters etc.) Don't worry about layout too much at this stage, just suss out what grows well and what doesn't. Throw away any plants that don't grow wellland concentrate on the good ones. Note what species do well and buy more if necessary.

It took me a couple of years to acheive what I'd regard as a decent aquascape. Patience is the key. There's loads of inspiration out there for layout ideas.

Good luck.

i would move the red stem plant in the middle to the back then just leave the plants to grow and fillout then bin the bad ones

Looks great as it is, i have the same problems as you with the lay out it looks like i have to many plants.

I'm not sure the red plants will survive. They were probably in the worst condition. I took off as many dead leaves as I could and I'll see how they go. I hear they need a lot of light.

Chris do you have a pic of your tank?

I shall take all your advice and be patient :) I'll leave it as it is for now and see which plants do well and re-arrange it in a month.
