I skipped through your post and was like "Aw he got a cute little animal!"....and then I scrolled down to the pic. :hyper: I am not one for snakes, but it is quite beatiful. As long as it stays in that picture and is not next to me, I am fine. :p

I use to love catching garden snakes when I was little. My mother was never thrilled to see them around the house though :p
Although that one is much prettier

Ah, hes purdy.... Whats the viv like? Can we have a pic?
right now he's in a 40 gallon aquarium (36x13x18 i believe), until i either build my own viv for him or try and talk my friends dad into it for me cause he's awesome at making them, i have him a climbing branch that he keeps knocking over  but he still climbs on it after he knocks it over so its all good i guess  , if i had to wager a guess id say hes close to 3 feet when he's fully stretched he goes from 1 end to the other almost

i was told they dont like a lot of space which seems weird to me considering in the wild they have a lot, every care sheet i read says a 30 gallon tank would be perfect for a full grown but that seems kinda small, well ive seen 30 and 50, but id rather build him his own, i'll probably make it 6 feet long with a glass bottom and chicken wire for the top and sides, im thinking 6' long x 4' wide x 2-4' high

Aww!

You're right a 30 gal is really tiny for a ball python. They don't move a whole heck of a lot (unlike some other reptiles, like chinese water dragons, etc), but that doesn't mean they don't need room. Since they get pretty large they need at least enough room that they can stretch out in a big long line (imagine always having to have several of your vertabrae kinked up). Ball would prefer an enclosure that is TALLER rather than WIDE or LONG because they are arboreal. I imagine you have a heat lamp and a uva/uvb light too?

It sounds like you're doing everything right, way to go! :D

right now i just have a heat lamp until i can figure out a way to secure a canopy on there that is escape proof cause all it does at night is tries to find weaknesses in teh lid thats on there now

They're STRONG too! I had to put clips on mine to keep the lid on with pretty heft gauge screen top - my rat snake would push against the light gauge screen so much he buckled the HECK out of it!
