Hey Everybody,

My beautiful one and a half year old marble angel seems to be getting pop-eye in only one eye.... I have no idea why?? Water parameters are perfect, although I did have two ottos die a while back for unknown reasons, and the second wasnt found for a few days, by which time there was only a little skull left

She has had some tiny patches of what looks like fungus over the last 2 weeks but i treated and they went, reappeared somewhere else, went reappeared somewhere else!!! Ive also given two doses of internal bacteria (formaldehyde)

what else can i do?? can i do water changes when the internal medication is supposed to be in for 4 days??

I looked about the web a there seem to be lots of horror stories about incurable diseases!!

everything has been fine for a year and a half and the only other thing which has changed is that ive put a CO2 reactor on - which ive now taken off incase any yeast was getting into the tank...

ive attached a piccie (i hope)

many thanks

PB

Where was the fungus on the body and was it fluffy in appearance, popeye is the eye bulging out.

Also post test results in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph, what size tank, how many fish and which type.

nitrite/ammonia = not detected
nitrate ~20 mg/l

120L - 36x12x15

mostly small fish;

4 zebras, 5 glowlights, 3 cardinals, 2 harlequins, 4 corys, now 1 otto :(

eheim 2213 filter with 2 L effisubstrat pro.........

fungus was on main body above lateral line

Did it look like a saddle the patch underneath the dorsal fin area.

its a bacterial infection. My angel is currently battling this and i am doing 50% water changes each day to try and keep it in line. I also used anti internal bacteria med which kills the bacteria in the tank. You will need to salt the tank as well but only do this if you dont have scaleless fish. My fish is in a worse condition than yours so i hope you caught it early. good luck.

Thanks for all the help everyone - although I did read the discus pages on Columnaries and got quite scared!!

Well Angelina has been on terramycin (oxytetracyclin) dosed food for 5 days now, and the little white patches have all disappeared, she seems a lot brighter and her food eating coordination seems better too!! fingers crossed!!

Ive been water changing every 3rd day, but i think i found the underlying problem. I clocked my eheim 2213 only putting out 120 L/h!!! So ive changed ALL the o-rings and cleaned all the piping and its running about 325 L/h now which is a huge improvement and pretty much on spec!!

The eye is still popped out, but she seems to be moving it more?!? any idea how long it takes an eye to un-pop once an infection has 'gone'??

thanks,

PB

Give it time antibiotics take a while to work, even then you can have to use tetracycline up to two weeks just to make sure the desease dosn't come back, hope she carrys on inproving, also you did issolate the fish to use that strong antibiotic as it will wipe the benefical bacteria in your filter.
