here is a goby for you!

Looks like a brute :flex: , what kind of goby is he ? :D

Sweet!!!

Never knew gobies get so big, maybe because I only know of the bumble bee variety. :*) Is that a brackish goby as well, or do all gobies need salt? And do you have any more pics to share?

Nope it's a marbled. :D theres an old one at my LFS whose all beat up from being housed with red devils for 5 years

Hi i kept one of these for a while and the lfs sold it as a water cow goby, when i got him he was only about 5-6" and they said he was almost fully grown, well i wasnt convinced eating goldfish the way he was so i done loads of research, even went to plymouth marine aquarium and it turns out they are some kind of sleepy cod goby, that can grow upto 3-4 foot and needs to consume its own wieght in food per day or more, so the lfs had him back. He was an awesome fish though didnt like the tank decor though always moving that around and trying to bury in the sand. You can see the pic of him in my avatar.

The common name for this species in the UK is "cow goby" and the scientific name is "eleotris vittata".
It is a variety of sleeper goby.

All the literature I have found on it says it grows to 9-10" so I guess it is full size.
The literature also states that it is a freshwater/brackish water fish. Basically it is found in both, I would hazard a guess it can be found in esturies.

I was unsure as to whether you were refering to me or the fish!

Yes it does have a healthy appetite but then again so do I.
I feed it on peeled prawns, whitebait and the odd live fish. I dont tend to use many feeders at all as I cannot see the point if it takes other stuff.

I have owned it for 3-4 years.

It has grown well in that time, it should do as it has a 7'x2'x20" tank all to its self.
I do have other better pictures of it which i will post once i have scaled them down.

Here's the goby in his tank at home.

Excuse the algae on the glass.

I tend to keep my hands away from the mouth area when i do the maintenance.

Although when it comes to the fish shows he is quite happy to be lifted by hand in and out the show tank/travelling case.
