is this algea or just how the java fern reproduces?

Java Fern does produce daughter plantlets on the leaves.

Err, your picture really isn't conclusive...

so can i remove these and grow them seperatly in the tank or should i wait for a bit? and the brown things (roots i guess?!?!) are normal yeah?!

If they are daughter plantlets, they will float free when large enough.

The Java fern plant will produce "baby plants" or "daugthers" of itself. Typicall the daughters are created at the tips of the Java fern. At first all you see is long, thing brown string like hair (those are the roots). Then you will see one to two small leaves. Eventaullt the daughter plant will float away from the mommy plant if the daughter plant is big and still has not floated away you can seperate them yourself and place them somewhere else in the tank.

I started off with 1 small java plant in my tank 6 months ago and I now have 4 big ones and a whole lot of small ones all over my tank. =)

Have fun.
