Bloody Petoral Fin

Recently my Yellow Boy, Som, came down with a bad case of fin rot (my fault, I was sick and didn't change their water for 3 days ) ) anyways...I had to cut his fins, as they were not healing well and were getting dangerously close to his body with the infection. His tail fin looks great now, it's got about a 1/16 of clear growth formed along the entire edge.

The problem is, nisleft pectoral fin just suddenly appeared, well bloody. Sunday night it was fine when I did water changes, was fine when I packed them up for work Monday morning, but yesterday afternoon before I got off work I noticed that the whole thing was blood red! I already had him in some aquarisol and salt, and his temp up to 85*. So I took him out and gave him a salt dip before I left.

When I got here this morning it wsa no different, although he does have a bubble nest built . He doesn't move it around alot, it looks rather swollen and big...but that could just be because I can see the whole thing now, they were quite transparant before. He's swimming around just fine, and eating dandy....

I have made up some water with Tetracyclene and when I do water changes in a couple hours...I'm going to put him in it.

Anyone know what this is, what could have caused it, should I be worried, what should I be doing for it that I already am not? I lost Det over the weekend to some bad Tap water....I don't want to loose another fish so soon.

SRC, it's hard to say. Since he's acting fine (happy, in fact, with the bublenest and all) I would guess it's probably one of two things.

1. He got caught on something. In this case, I think you are doing the right thing - keep up the antibiotics (or grab yourself some colloidal silver if you've got it - that might be better since he's already been on antibiotics for the fin rot.

2. It's left over from fin rot - treat the same way.

I might should add....the fin rot was on his tail not his pectoral ...I just re-read what I typed and thought it might have been a little misleading on what was going on.

No problem, SRC. My thinking on the fin rot is that it's bacterial, so I would imagine it would have no problem transferring to another fin, either systematically through the fish, or through the water column. But it might also be a ripped fin, or something I haven't thought of yet! Hopefully someone will come on in and give you a second opinion.
