NOTE: I was going to post this in the danio section, but I was unable to post the pics that go along with my problem.

One of my zebra danios started getting a belly about 4 months ago. I thought it was pregnant, but it never laid eggs. Its belly got to a certain size, stayed like that for a really long time (couple of months) and then it started getting even larger. Its sides are bulging and it's simply huge. Just a few days ago her back started to become bent, probably due to all that weight.

Any ideas what is wrong? Could this be a parasite or other disease? My parameters are good, and all other fish are doing great. She doesn't seem to be bothered by her gigantic belly. She is as quick and perky as the rest of the danios.

That's what I thought, but she has looked like this for over 4 months! Are they supposed to be pregnant that long? Do I need to do something in order for her to lay the eggs? In other words, will she keep holding them until everything is perfect?

I have a danio that’s just like yours, I’ve always thought she was pregnant, but like yours I’ve never seen her spawn.
I’ll be watching this thread with interest.

take it out and put it in a tank alone with a male. Make sure there is no substrate, and they are in a course breeder newt, only allow only inch of water in the net, if you know what I mean by that. In the morning of the following day you should see eggs, if there are eggs she should be skinnier. If not, it minght be over feed like Lynz781 said, or it minght have bloat, or some knid of infection

I know she isn't overfed, but I have no idea on the disease part.
I will try sticking her with a male and see what happens.
Now... to find out which one is a male...

some females are just fat, it is a natural thing the same as with humans.

I have a few females that never loose their bulf even after spawning

Well I noticed a couple of nights ago a couple of my female danios were really fat bulging out at the sides. I thought it was because I was trying to get get my corys to feed but the greedy buggers ate the lot, so I thought they were overfed. I've decided to cut down on feeding.

She prob got married and has put on some weight - SADDLEBAGS ! :p
