Well, one of my clown loaches has Ich I believe there are little white spots only about 3-5 spots which I thought was sand but then I realized it was still there today. So hopefully I got him to my quarintine tank quick enough. He is also pretty pale. I believe I should slowly rise the temperature to around 86 degrees. Any Ideas anyone? I would appreciate it. None of my other fish show any problems. Hopefully I caught it in time. :-(

If you look at this picture from two days ago you can see a white spot on the tail fin. You can also see one on the fin below him I don't know what the name of the fin is called.

In this one from a few minutes ago you can't see the spots very well but you can see one on the rear end of the body and one on the tailfin.

Hi...looks like early ich on the first photo. Looks like salt shaken onto the fish. This site has a pinned area of the treatment. The mainstays are:
1) ditch the charcoal in the filter
2) raise the temp, 86 is pushing it for my books....I like 81 or so, some say 85
3) I'd do 10% water changes frequently
4) most recommend aquarium salt, but, with loaches, some of the forumites here say it can 'burn' loaches
5) continue treatment for 2-3 days after the spots disappear
6) my best experience has been with malechite green ...I've used Wardleys' Ich Away and had success both times..once in my main tank when it was cycling and the other in my quarantine tank. Don't wait until the fish is covered with spots..it can really take off since the parasite dumps of hundreds to thousands of new organisms into the water. SH

acually 86 is not pushing anything, 86 should do

how did he get ich!!?!?!?!? bahh dang loaches, THATS why i dont want them...

and also you said "one of my loaches" u only have one :p

I just got 2 more in the tank today. Wish I would of known earlier I wouldn't have got them looks like it spread to my severum too so I am going to have to do it with my big tank. I have 1 Severum and 1 clown loach who has ich my two firemouths look clear for now. I have them all in the same tank any suggestions, can I do the same things you suggested with these fish?

Hi..if you have a quarantine tank, you could pull the affected fish, treat them, and watch the others to see if they develop it. The ich parasite usually doesn't survive long without a fish to hang onto, however, some posts state that it can hang out in a 'subclinical' state until the fish becomes stressed. I would think that if you don't have a hospital tank, you'd have to treat the entire tank. I've had ich twice as I've said above, once during cycling of my first tank (I didn't do a fishless cycle) and once from the lfs but thankfully, those fish were put into the hospital tank and never contaminated my larger tank. SH

Yah, the problem is my main tank is already contaminated I noticed that because my severum has it now too. I have the clown loach that started it in the quarantine tank right now because it looks like it's more progressed on him. I'm going to pick up some meds tommorow hopefully that will work.

Every clown loach I have ever bought has died from a skin disorder, ich or fungus. It's been my experience they are one of the harder fish to keep. You must have near perfect water quality to keep them disease free, they are not for someone who wants a low maintenance setup.

I have had clown loaches for 8 months now...no ich, no problems...delightful fish. I keep them with agro african cichlids. I don't do anything different to their tank than I do to the other tanks. Maybe its the size of the tank (75gal), maybe its cause the tank was cycled....dunno....maybe we have good water in the area.....

LOVE the little guys

Good luck with the ich.....they say that once your tank has had it and gets over it that yur fish are resistant to it if it is introduced later on.....

Don't forget that some medications deplete the oxygen content in your water - as does raising the temperature. Be sure to increase the surface agtation with an airstone or by directing your filter outflow to the surface of your water to aid gas exchange. Good luck!

I have an Eheim Pro II 2026 on about 80% power and there is plenty of surface agitation. :) I got some ich medication and some Melafix which I heard is good which I wanted to have in the house just in case. I already put some of the ich medication in so hopefully they will be alright.

Don't forget to do some water changes. Also...an interesting note. Diatomaceous filters filter out particles up to one micron. They can actually filter out the ich organism, however, I wouldn't recommend buying one just for that purpose. SH

Yah, I just bought the Eheim lol.. How often should I do the 10% water changes?

One time i had a horrible case of ich wiht my clown loaches. hundreds of spots on each one. The tailfin looked exactly like that. I used a medication that only had fermaldahyde. I did 25% water changes each day (sometiems i missed a day though) it took 2 weeks, but it worked. I only raised the temp to 81 because i have some heat intollerant fish.

Now, if i were you i woudln't have even switched tanks. If one fish is infected, it might not be too long before the others are. I'd just treat the main tank and find out why your fish got ich in the first place. Fish only get ich when they're very stressed, in bad water, or too cold water, or when theres another fish with ich. You should find out why they got ich so you can avoid it in the future.

you can message me with questions if you want.
