On a positive note, the large one who is developing its labyrinth, looks like it's going to be orange :*) :hyper:
How weird is that? How is that possible? Orange is recessive...?

Dad must be heterozygous for it, too, too weird.

I dunno how that happened, I'm stumped. Of course I'm only going by the color of the rings around the eye....the "eyelid" area? Ya know? Solid orange :dunno: I'll try to get a pic in a few. In the past I've pretty much been able to tell the color by judging that area. It seems to develop first.

how old is the bigger one now??
Age isn't really a factor with this spawn anymore, not since they had such a hard time merely surviving for those two weeks. Now I'm just aiming for progress and developement. But it's right around 5 weeks.

hopefully you get a few good ones that you can use to further the line, it really stinks that youve been having bad luck. maybe it is just the parents genes? combined with any minor things that happened to the water? i hope the few that you have pull through and come out good.

P.S. im sorry to post this here and will edit but kelly please check your pm's, Thank you.

Thanks for the explanation on "belly slider" although I kind of guessed that's what you meant. Is there any chance it will recover and manage to swim properly?

I ask because a few of my fry showed those tendancies for a while but most of them are now coming up fine for air although they do tend to swim more vertically. Its as if they have lead weights in their bottoms!

Poor little guys

Interesting comment on the colour of their eyes. How exciting to be able to tell what colour they will be within the first few days :hyper:

Well, the bellyslider is no longer sliding  Goes to show what a little patience can bring

All three of the oldest crew are coming along nicely. Just this past couple of days I've noticed their metallic scales coming in!! :hyper: This is really exciting for me because I had no idea what to think. Anyway, here's the biggest who was crooked in the last pic and with him is the tiniest who was the belly slider. The third is actually right in between both sizes but they're so active that getting all three in a shot is next to impossible

The second spawn with the two hatched fry, they're doing great too. They're such hiders though that I couldn't get a pic of them if I tried.

Awww they're lovely

Good to hear the little one is off the bottom now. I still have one that does it so I'm hoping it will come good.

Good to hear the other two are doing well also. Looking forward to pics when they come out of hiding :D

Yuppers,they're little alright

Ok then, final count is three who are two months old and very small for their age  But growing still..

And the second crew of two are almost a month and looking great. They just started grindals last week and they're growing fast. They'll probably pass the first group

Anyhoo, here is the only one I can manage a shot of. Ole crookedy spine  But I see lots of green coming in on all three of them :hyper:

you really can see the green  i bet it's way brighter in person too huh :hyper: i've named him scolio :look: hi scolio

Scolio  Poor kiddo...

Ya know what just dawned on me as I was doing wc's and peeking at the 3 1/2 week olds...I think I have 5 males :X D'oh!
Oh well, fingers crossed and hoping one of the smaller two turns out female so I can go for an F2.

was just looking at you fish room post wuv, as well, your like me gone past the obsession stage..........just a quick question what is you ph in your tanks and what temperature do you keep them at........ B)

The room has spun out of control since I started jarring more reds and the CT's. To be quite honest with you, I don't check the PH of my tanks often *cough hardly ever cough* but my tap PH is 7.6. The room stays at 78...ish

yes thats the same as mine with no heating in the room..and ph about the same was reading some information the other day about this myth of a lower ph gives more males in a spawn as they said on the section that it had not really been trailed to the extent that it actually works, as someone also said he got more females i usually get more females on 7.6 ph.......
