looks like a crayfish to me. I used to catch them that looked very similar in a strem by my house when i was a child. used to cut there tails off. marinade them in cajun spice and cook them. good eating. Don't worry "Mr. Anderson" I won't eat a pet. lol

and I just have to say mmm mmmm - crayfish goes excellent with garlic sauce or vinegar :shifty:

anyway thereally sad thinga bout eating crayfish is that theyare usually pretty damn old by the time they are big enuff to eat - which seems a shame.
there are lots of protected parts around New zealand shores to prevent fisherman from taking the diminishing numbers of cray and diff species of fish.

but bring on the commercially grown cray I say!! ;) hehe

ive got one like that tho i think they start off blue and shed their skin and become red like that they eat their skins i think. hmm i have been told lots of stuff about them but im usually drunk so i will do some research.
 
I think its a long armed shrimp. Not heavily bodied enough to be a crayfish
