Here's some recent photos of my 34G. Having only limited success with carpeting Echinodorus tennelus (microsword/dwarf-chain sword), I have decided to try and grow a lush lawn of Eleocharis acicularis (hairgrass) instead. You can see it pearling already after only 1 hour of planting so I'm optimistic that it will grow well. It's not that the microsword didn't grow, it did and produced loads of runners, it fell victim to a green mat algae which my SAEs wouldn't touch. I only noticed it after careful inspection because the algae was a similar colour the leaf. I'm fairly confident the hairgrass won't fall to the same fate as I'm sure Eleocharis sp. produce alleochemicals which resist algae (read Diana Walstad - The Ecology of the Planted Aquarium). I'm hoping that the hairgrass will carpet nicely, time will tell.

Right view. BTW The Angels are to be re-homed on the 28th Jan, replacing with 14 more Cardinals and some Amano shrimps.

Close-up of hairgrass. You can see the tiny oxygen bubbles already, not bad for an hour after planting.

Very nice.

But the first thing my eyes were draw to was the short grass like plants in the front, they look to perfectly spaced.
 
Thanks. The hairgrass has only just been planted, it should start to spread in weeks to come hopefully, that explains the uniforimity.

Alright gotcha, it should look good once it spread out some more :clap:
 
That's the plan anyway. Hairgrass is notoriously hard to get 'going', I experimented with a small clump a couple of months ago and it did well so I'm hopefull. Fingers crossed.

Well I wish you luck, I'm going to be getting some low ground cover after I move.
 
Lovely tank, The grass will look great in a while once it starts to grow.
The other plants are very nice too.

Hope the grass starts speading soon, and oh, I like the trimming job too!
 
Good Luck w/ the hair grass dude! Should be nice. :)

Some of mine actually succumbed to BB algae recently . . . *sob* I introduced a new species of cardina shrimp to the tank to hopefully right the issue . . .
