I was browsing the forum a bit ago. Earlier (hour ago) I noticed our largest scarlet hermit shed its shell. I figured it was about time for that to happen. We'll about 30 minutes after that my wife was observing the tank and she calls me in. She watched two smaller hermits kill the large hermit and proceed to remove it from its shell while the dotty back watched and took the body away after it was extracted.

The dottyback leaves the scene with his prize...

Back at the shell 3 hermits gather to try to take this shell. The larger one prevails and leaves his shell then the next crab takes it and the next one takes that one. So basically my entire fleet of hermit crabs just got upgraded. No biggie there. But it was a fun sight to watch.

Now back to the dottyback scene.....

You can see the fish going to town on his feast. But we notice that he now has a humongous bulge or "pot belly" now. I am in the process of trying to get a picture of this freak sight.

NOW heres the question I have for all of you. Will this fish die from overeating??? Cuz he is still at it. Should I remove the rest of the leftovers?????

Picture to come soon!!!!

A fish stomach can expand like no other, it should be fine.

Here is a picture of the porker after the feast.

geee wiz, ive only seen a fish with that size belly after my fire eel ate all of my guppies. but ive never seen a SW fish with that big of gut.

tip for next time, keep extra shells for them to trade in and out of when they get bigger. as my dad went to austrelia, i asked him to bring back some shells, they are green and pink, anyways, he trades them out mabe once a week until he is comfey. some times the other fish will swim into the bigger shells for homes.

Wile caring for my parents FLR tank, the lionfish kept getting the goldfish before any others could. He must have eaten 7 or 8 of them, his stomach was the size of my fist. He pulled through just fine. Dont expect to see him eating over the next few days.
