What's the thingie on the rock surfaces?

It's been a few days since I noted some "spots" on my rocks surfaces but today the spots became a layer!! Here'r some pics:

The rock (originally reddish) in the above picture is covered with a layer of brownish thing. It's clearer on the two quartz.

It deffo looks like brown algea to me.. I have it aswell... But it seems to slow down quite alot with regular water changes

Yes sorry guys, I made it into 2 forums coz I think I'll get more responses in chit chat / emergencies...

so there's no way I can totally get rid of those algae?

scrub, scrub, scrub ...chech with some of the folks in the live plans section, I think if you have lots of live plants that they will help to starve your algae (I think )

great minds think alike ....the one i dislike the most is the Black algae, none of our fish will touch it

definatly brown algae.


it has infested our 10 gallon tank. lack of light will also help. I left our light off for 2 days and the algae is almost gone. anf the platy's have started to eat it too.

I know that my snails REALLY take care of the green algae, but as far as that brown crud that latches on to the glass as well...I'm not sure. Maybe my snails take care of that too. I really don't notice it anywhere but on the glass and even that's not too bad....nothing my scrub brush won't take care of!!! B)
