B) I'm just wondering what is the normal size for both a betta and a plakat. I bought one of each from a breeder and both have not grown a bit since I got them. Both are what I would consider very small. To add insult to injury, the betta is a tail biter and was well into doing that when I received him. The breeder didn't warn me about that problem.

Here's the plakat which I think is a bit small.

Normally up to a max size of 3", but it differs from strain to strain and whether or not the betta is a giant or not... or at least I think that's how it goes. ;)

Also depends on health, tank size, type of foods used, frequency of water changes...

-_- Both fish are well under 2 inches - more like 1 1/2 inches in size. The others have come in and you can almost see them growing. Not these two... they just stay the same. They are not tank mates so it can't be the tank conditions.

Hmm. I have several betta's and they all vary drastically in size.

My huge guy is at least 2 years old and almost twice the size of the younger ones who are 8 months.

My female is growing very slowly, and she still has a long way to go.

They just go at their own pace.

Have gone more than my share of Plakats in a short period of time (since I am prone to buy Betta's and transfer them to new homes).

I have had two I consider large who hit a lenght of 2.7" and 2.8" each (Lenny and Aku). Two others who are 2" long (Kobie and Ryujin). Even the "medium sized" 2" plakats have 2-3x the body mass of you typical CT, VT or HM betta,

I have one, who (Winston) who is as small as a typical CT, VT or HM. Has not grown much (if at ll) in them month I have had him. He eats a lot tough, as much as my bigger Plakats.

well if yur too distraught over their size i think i can take one for u. Nice Plakat. My VT hasnt gown any either for 6 months. I dont think it is a big deal. nose to tail he is almost 3". I think bettas are more vqariant in size than most fish.

I am not too sure, but I think it may have to do with the way that "fancy" fish are bred, which results from either inbreeding or the "breeding" of recessive traits. I think this may have some effect on fish size.

Although I did see a monster Plakat 3.4" long, and he was marble.

If I am right, your betta is a halfmoon plakat and I called it a cross between a plakat male with a halfmoon female. Therefore, it is depends the parent size. I have one pair halfmoon plakat and they are pretty short too. Like 1 3/4" and I think they will get longer like maybe 2". Check his measurement now and measure again in every month. I have a pair of giant plakat and it is suppose to get 3.75" long. They getting big since I got them and they still growing. Mature plakat should be in 6 months. I will measure mine and see how long it will growth. :D
