My dads trying to raise some babies from these species, some of his badis have passed on and he needs to bring up the population before the only female gets worn out :) We have about 30 badis fry (Free swimming) in a ten gallon right now, this is a pic of them in the flower pot before we moved the father :)

See the dots? Those are eggs/hatching eggs ;) The male did a great job, he's now back in the 70g enjoying life :p

Now onto the tricky gudgeons, this is the 3rd attempt with them, the fry keep dissapearing, and we're blaming the few planaria worms that are in there

Anyway, here is the father blocking us from his eggs

lol in the first picture is that the bone from a rib eye steak?
No , it's a piece of vinyl tubing from old fluval 403 filter , he was hiding in it so I put it in the flower pot .Then he and the female bred , laying eggs all over the flower pot and the tubing , so I left it .

Aww... baby badis specks!
I have a couple of bigger babies in my big tank , about a 1/4 " long , and near impossible to net out  .

I also have another male in the 70 gal , he's dug in pretty good , has a sweet spot under a rock , like a baby factory , actually I've seen several sizes those being the largest , no gudgeons in that tank though.

sylvia , if you do the 55 gal with just badis you could end up with generations of badis , I can't because of the other species of fish I keep with mine , they are trying .

Oh I'll deffinately do the 55 gallon :D I'm beginning to realy love badis - they are just SO cute! - so I will get that tank set up as soon as I can get the money collected up (and once we've moved house :p). I'll still need to get my LFS to order some in but that should be ok.

I love mine . Last night I couldn't sleep so I got my flash light out to check the gudgeon eggs , crazy , but this is the kind of the I do when I can't sleep . Anyway I shined the light in my big tank to see if my population of Malayan snails is on the rise , and I saw about 20 tiny fry up against the sides of my tank , some will survive , sadly most will not .
