They are awfully cute, aren't they? However, these two (the only ones left from the second batch F1) don't have any ventrals.
Not to bring this up again, and I still think it's genetic in many cases, but since I went from 100% ventrals to 100% ventral-less from the first brood to the next, and they have the same parents, I think in this case it was caused by me not being as vigilent as I should have been about the cleanliness of their tank. Life got in teh way, and cleanings went down.
I believe ventrals usually come in at about 3 weeks. These fry will never have ventrals. They will probably be adopted out when they are old enough, because I don't have a lot of room to house bettas I can't breed.
And they may be boys, Joby, no way to tell at this point . I was sure all the F!'s were girls, but then one blossomed into a boy. I should know in the next two or three weeks if these are boys or girls.
No worries, I think mine are developing a bit late (as the other F1 batch is() because daddy was a plakat. Many say they can tell sex before that point, but after how long it took to tell with the other F1, I'm not expecting this batch to be much different. The male from my first F1 had a prominant ovipositor before he became male, so I found it all very confusing.
Congrats on your ventrals! Aren't betta fry just too, too sweet?
