Well I was just pottering around the house and I noticed that the sun was falling directly on the tank. The lights were off and the tank looked lovely. The plants were pearling like crazy. All due to the best lightbulb around! The sun. I got into a serious photo session and so here are the results. There are lots of lovely photos spoilt due to reflections in the glass. Couldn't be helped due to the sun and no tank lights but some are really nice photos.

No. 1
A general shot of about 3/4 of the tank.

For anyone who wants to know what pearling looks like this is a pretty good shot showing what happens. All those small points of light in the water are oxygen bubbles streaming off the plant leaves (Amazon Sword plants). The black neons get in on the act again!

They tried and tried so I HAD to have a black neon closeup. Not an exotic fish but very nice and under rated in my opinion. The natural sunlight seemed to tranquilise them and this one stayed still long enogh for me to get this photo without the use of a flash. All the photos in this thread are flash free and use only natural sunlight.

The first shot is the best! All look great IMO. And yea, don't you get a lot of algae in your tank?

Algae is the bain of my life! I don't just get algae I get blue green algae. Even the otos don't eat that.
The sun is very rarely on the tank. It gets direct lsunlight for about two hours a day during the winter months only. Normally I have vertical blinds on the window that reduces the amount of light by about half but I drew that back to take the photos. It was staged in a way. My favourite is the first pic too! I do like the neon though. They rarely stay put long enough to get a decent shot.

Thanks for the vote of confidence guys and gals.

I love the black neons!
I am considering getting some to go in with my rasbora hets. In your experience, are they pretty hardy and easy to care for?

The black neons are really easy in my experience. I've had a few die on me but the remaining ones have all been fine for over 6 months. They are robust little guys. When the attack food it's very much lick the darting pack attack of piranha. They are active and not that easily scared off. If stressed the black line fades quickly but it'll soon return when they calm down.

Wow, that's so cool! I've seen them at the lfs, just didn't know they were called black neons until now. I used to have a school of penguin tetras, looks a bit like black neons.

Yeah, they are pretty cool. When I've been changing the water or generally faffing about they are nearly colourless. Give them twenty minutes and they are back to black.
Give them food and it's even quicker!
