He might be suffering from fin rot? But am a newbie so
:dunno: for sure.

Symptoms: Holes in tail or fins. Fins split, frayed or falling off.
Suggests: Fin or tail rot
Remedy: Neosulfex, Ampicillex or Mela-Fix Tetracycline
Prevention: Remove objects in bowl that could tear fins

My VT have fin rot and I could not find any of the above medicines. A pair of 20 minute salt bats seem to have done the trick. His fins are now regenerating.

i've seen a betta with finrot and that looked nothing liek what happened to him, there was nothing in his tank that could have cut it like it was, it looked like someone cut his fins with sissors and i know finrot isnt a clean cut like that, odly enough after his fins fell off he started swimming again and eating again :S

im trying the silver stuff too see what happens with him

one of mine has something simular looks like its been cut with a blade, it's only a very small part of his fin and is now looking aas it is growning back as have had him on melafix

Would be interested to know what caused it. Mine went off his food till the bad bits had come away and is now his old self again

It's weird isn't it :/

sorry, i'm not wuv but..it is a form of fin rot, one of our girls developed exactly the same thing once, the fin looked like it had been cut with scissors. we used maracyn-two and it cleared it up just fine.

last night when i was taking pics of him he was showing vertical bars so when i woke up this morning i thought his 'give myself a sex change' was completed

jk, i've never seen finrot like this before we'll see how this silver stuff works, i'm told it's great and it sounds like it is, the only thing wrong with it is the price :look:

i called the thread 'for wuv' cause i told her i'd show her a before and after pic of him, i'm trying to help him regenerate his fins, this is his 2nd time around with fin problems and they come out of the blue and hit hard

Aww poor thing...

i usually use melafix but if that doesnt work, I put the betta or fish into a well established healthy tank cuz I've found out that fins n stuff grow back REAL quick in a good healthy tank. Thats why I dont bother using melafix when my betta gets fin rot and stuff :p unless its severe

i accually try to stay away from chems unless i really have to use them, clean water and lil salt goes a long way ;) in your case mr.bones it sounds pretty sevear, i hope he gets better, he's a really nice fish. as for the verticel bars i heard somewhere that when the males are under alot of stress they will display them, but the only one who do this have green or blue bodys -_- its pretty werid
