Try a "T" Piece and also drill a small hole in the top of the pipe so air can get sucked down fro above. This should help aleviate some of the noise

Thanks Navarre, but wouldnt a "T" piece mean the water goes down alot quicker?

Also a whole in the top wouldnt work because sometimes these fittings are completely submerged.

carrying on the hole on the top idea couldn't you silicon a pice of pipe on above the hole so the top of this tube is always above the max water line, kind of like a snurkle (sp)

Other than that i think if you slow the flow down it might shut it up.....when u empty a bath it makes a right noise but if you cover the hole slightly it becomes quieter....

hope you spotted this picture for u also...- http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=68444

Thanks Paul, didnt notice the picture so thanks for that and will add it to the cd which is coming along nicely :)

Went to lfs today and they showed me away of doing the overflow so will try that and let you know how I get on.

thanks

I managed to get my 8x2x2 silent by putting valves on and closing them off so only water gets sucked down. how many drains and of what size are they. also what size are the return pumps?

ste :)

Ste2k3

There are 6 outlets all with 3/4" pipe and there are 2 inlets with again 3/4" pipe, these are pumped by two Aquaclear 5000's. What are the valves, do you have a picture??
