He's a veiltail with a split. You can see it's beginning to get some new growth, though. If he were a double tail he's have the characteristic double wide dorsal fin. See my pinned post for more info.

I'll second Julie's post That clear bit inbetween his "tails" is new growth. How long have you had him? It may or may not fill in, either way he's a beautiful fish

I got him about 5 weeks ago, at a Petland(like petsmart or petco). where its split, is that normal, or did something happen?
