Please could you guys tell me what you have in your sumps i.e gravel, trickel filters or any other items :dunno:

I'm trying a new (ish) design for my new sump. I'm having the water entering onto a DSB which will act as a detritus trap and then into a mineral mud refugium with algae. there will be bioballs between each section and both the fuge and DSB will be lighted. I'l post a pic soon. I'm also runing a deltec rowa reactor with rowaphos, a deltec rowa reactor for carbon (3 days a month) a deltec ap600 skimmer which is slightly to small to allow the algae to grow. a Korralin calcium reactor and a Kalk stirer (which I'll be getting soon)

ste :)

would you have any ideas i could try as im on a little budget at the moment its just a 170ltr sump with skimmer, heater and pump thats about it i still have a eheim exsternal filter should i sell it or use it

I'd sell the external and get a big pump as a return from the sump. If you8 can turn the tank over 15 times an hour, then thats great (10 will do though). Are you going to be using live rock too?

ste :)

I personally didn't like sand in the sump. I have some cheap cheap full spectrum light bulbs that fit in the normal socket (and the lamps are cheap as well). I run those 24/7. The only thing I keep in the sump is cheato and it grows like mad.

ive got 30 kg at the mo i got that cheap of a bloke who kept them under 3x 250watt halides, but im going to get another 90kg. as for lights in the sump i can use my old lights for that as im getting T5s as i cant afford halides< i was gutted when i found out he sold his halides for £400 :X

Pics of the sump. I'v got a deep sand bed in the first chamber (or will have when I get the sand). to keep it simple you can just have bio balls in thefirst chamber and have a larger mud chamber.

Bare-bottom sump with skimmer and return pump, phosban reactor and topoff triggers. That's about it. B-ionic doses into the display.
