if this hood was home made, you probly wired wrong or forgot to do some subber coating.

im not really sure about the wiring part because it ran well for around 3 months, i just kinda ignored the heat hahahaha

and yes it was scary, good thing i was there to save it... This is a warning to everybody doing DIY, be careful!!!!!! hahaha

That's crazy, if you weren't there, your fish would be swimming in charcoal..

I'm sure that some condensation built up in the wiring and shorted the ballast, either that or you didn't mount the ballast on a metal plate for heat dissipation
