Moving day for countless fry

Well today is the day I've decided to combine my 2 spawns into the growout tank. I'm starting with the smaller red spawn in hopes that they may grow a bit more over the next couple of days to catch up with the blue spawn, which I will then add in a couple days. So far I have moved 180 red fry!!! And there are still countless fry still in the spawn tank. They are 4.5 weeks old now. I'm guessing there are a total of over 300 red fry!! (and this isn't counting the blue spawn yet) This is going to be a day long adventure, Lol. Scooping out 3-13 at a time and adding them to the growout. I've decided I will leave some in the spawn tank, not sure how many, probably when I get tired of moving them, Haha. This is ALOT of fry for a 45 gallon growout, so I see alot of culling in my future, although I do know there will be alot of larger fry eating the smaller fry, which is perfectly fine with me. This happened with my first red spawn, and actually worked out for the best. I'll keep you updated on the count as I move more (assuming I do, 180 already, sheesh, I may stop there).

ok, just did another round of gathering and transfering...62 more reds added for a total of 242, with many more (although thinning now) still in the nursery. And I've moved 38 blues so far too (which isn't even a dent into that group). These guys are still pretty small, so the Hugh number in the growout is ok, but once they start growing (which should be quickly now) it's going to get very crowded, I may be picking up a large rubbermaid container to be another growout tank, LOL.

Whoo-hoo! Round 'em up! That's exciting stuff. I'm hoping for some pictures, too...

My head hurts just thinking about all those fry. Congrats on two successful spawns.

Hehe, yes it's going to be alot of work once they start to grow. Right now they aren't crowded at all in the 45 gallon, since they're still so small, but I imagine they are going to go through a growth spurt over the next couple of weeks, then things are going to get interesting.

I've been gone since my last post, so I haven't transferred anymore, I will probably finish up tomorrow. I've decided I am going to move every single one of them to make it easier at feeding time, just one tank rather than 3. I think it will be a while before I attempt anymore spawns, I'll need to deal with these guys and gals first, haha.

I'll work on pictures once they're all in there, although right now they are kind of dwarfed by the size of the tank, so not sure you'll see anything, Lol. Plus there is alot of plant (live and silk) in the tank, so they're all hiding in all the nooks and cranies.

I may be selling off batches of juvies once they get older if anyone is interested, hahahaha

OK, moved most of the blues over and almost the rest of the reds, the current count is:

Reds: 365
Blues: 138
Total: 503

There are a few straglers in each tank, so final count will be over 520 total fry between both spawns. I'm scawed!

Wow, what cuties. I'm starting to wonder what's wrong with mine, they are so dull and way older then yours.
