We picked up a pair of West Africian (what we were told at the lfs) Cichlids, and for the life of me I can't remember their Latin name. They are very peaceful and get along with everyone else so far. From the info we got they are supposed to grew up to 7-8 inches when mature.

Here is a pic....This is little "Hedgehog"

I'm sure I'd seen a picture of this in PFK and that it was called a leopard chichlid, but did a quick search on it and it doesn't seem to look like yours :/

Link for what I found - though not much use HERE :/

:)

Thats not a cichlid  its a spotted climbing perch (ctenopoma acutirostre sometimes called a leopard ctenopoma they are a member of the climbing perch family),what have you got him in with? They are ambush predators and should only be kept with fish that are the same size or larger. They are also natural escape artists (theyre not called "climbing" perch for nothing) so make sure the lid is tight fitting and there are no little gaps they can fit through.

It is indeed a climbing perch, get to around 6", quite a shy fish, likes a pH of 6.5-7, temp 74-82 :)

Well so much for buddys knowledge at the lfs  , he does seem to care about what fish he sells and tries to find out what else is in the tank when you buy a fish from him. This is the same lfs that wouldn't sell me loaches because they were recovering from Ich, so I reserved them and will pick them up on Monday. :D

I'm not too worried about the other fish in the tank as they are all as big or
bigger than the Newbies.(Largest: 4 inch Jewel, Smallest: 2 1/2 inch Bolivian Ram {before you worry "Rambo" is the tank A**hole and can hold his own with the big boys so far} as well as 2 common Plecs 6" and 5" long). And two 3" Green Scatts (Leo & Mel)

Oh well live and learn, none of the Cichlids seem too concerned with their new roomies, but we are keeping an eye on them all as they grow, just in case the aggression level raises (there is a mix of Africian and CA/SA's in our 90 gal)...so far so good.

Thanks for the info folks. :)
