Granola bar gone bad....
A couple of weeks ago I went to Win Tropical looking for more coppers. The shelves were bare. The owner placed all the females into one tank with one Peruvian ram. Looked like a neat tank with all those females swimming around. He had a few veitails and crowns, but nothing spectacular. The week after I went to check again for any new shipments. Looks like a few new crowns, less females, and the same ram. Mind you, this is only the betta section, not his whole store. Anyway, I went last Friday to get a ram (because it looks like the rams he has are acclimated to tap water. But.... Lo and behold - solid color plakats (red and blue) galore. Maybe about 60 of them. I spotted a single cambodian plakat and put that one aside. No chances on someone else picking him up. Then I went to work, placing each container (about 60 of them) one-by-one next to the cambodian, looking for flare and activity. I wound up getting the cambodian and a red one. Both are still unnamed. The cambodian looks like a short-finned version of buttons. But this red one is a shade brighter than I'm used to - not betta-for-show red, but evenly red all over. This red one is a nut! I approach his bowl and he flares! I poke my finger at him, he flares at it. He sees Buttons in the next tank, he flares. He basically flares at any movement. Hmmmmm.... Come to think of it, he might be nearsighted. No problem, he'll just get glasses.
