I haven't had much luck lately getting a pr to spawn. Either the male does not wrap right, or the female doesn't drop the eggs. Had several spawns last winter, but when summer came, several prs would not even try. I put this pr. in yesterday, and they are trying to wrap. She is a melano female, so she is probably infertile, but I am getting to the point where I may as well try her. The flash shows the irrid more. She is normally darker bodied than in this pic. Wish them luck.

Good luck Fisher! I think you should try her even though she's melano...there's no way to tell if she's infertile, until you try, and if you get lucky and she's not, well dang! Breed her as much as you can, get those babies from her! haha I have a melano DT male, you could ship her to me, Muahahahaha J/K :)

There is a nice clump of eggs in the nest, and the female is out of the tank. The male is tending to the nest well..So far so good. The pic of the male is at 3 1/2 months old. He is about 9 mo. now.

Cool! I'll keep my fingers crossed that they're fertilized and Dad does a good job tending them.

my Melano male wont even build a nest.. I've tried everything.. he doesn't even bubble in his tank.. never.. it's sad.

It's been 40 hrs, and no sight of fry. The male is still tending the nest. I don't think they are going to hatch. I'm going to give them a chance. It figures. I finally get a pr to spawn again, and they are infertile. One good thing did come out of this. I tried something different for spawning the pr. I went with some info from some Thai breeders. I'm going to try it again with another pr. If it works again, I'll post what it was.

Yikes, they may just be infertile then, although not surprising since you said she is melano. However if he hasn't eaten the eggs yet, give them time, I would think he would have eaten them by now if they were no good.

i agree with linda, but i remember my first spawn the eggs took over 48 hours to hatch..but they did hatch in the end!

I gave them until he finally ate the eggs..52 hrs. Guess it wasn't meant to be. Putting a Orange pr in and a red Cambo pr in. Plakat males on both prs. I need a spawn or two. I have too many empty tanks and beanies..lol

what info did you get from thai breeders?
just wondering as i used "thai knowledge" with my last spawn. i did a sibling x of my 2nd generation ct's and was rewarded with a quick breeding (24 hours together) even though the male was a bit smaller than female. eggs hatched another 24 hours later (or thereabouts). i've also got a pair of doubletail (second generation male w/ first generation aunt) that i'm spawning right now.
