Okay, have had bettas before, and I posted before when I first got this one, but now 'Phantom Lord' has officially gone vicious. The lid on the five gallon he's in fits snugly into the rim of the tank leaving a small hole that I feed him through, which is great for humidity. The problem is, about a week ago, I stuck my finger down the hole so I could wash off a pellet that was sticking to my finger and he tried to bite my finger. I yanked my hand out of there fast because I heard bettas can bite hard. Then the other day I had my finger against the side of the glass and he tried to bite me through the glass!! Then, and I kid you not, two days ago I was sprinkling pellets into the hole (safely keeping my fingers out of the hole) and the crazy little $h!t ignored the pellets, jumped out the water and tried to bite me again! Now any time I get my finger near the hole he actually sticks his head out of the water and watches me, sometimes so far out that he looks like Flipper!

Now I'm kinda freaked out. I don't dare get my fingers anywhere close to the hole and I'm worried about sticking my hand in the tank to rearrange the fake plants. I feel like I have Jaws in my bedroom. I know bettas don't like other males, but this fish is out to get me!!!

Awww... what a cutie...

My Arnie does exactly those things and that is why i love him so much  lol

You should think of it as him having 'character' rather than being evil - and avoid putting your hand in the tank too much - it DOES hurt a lot when they bite - Arnie's made me bleed before! :D lol

Oh, by the way, arnie's the sexy purple guy in my sig! lol

Enjoy your cute little betta! And post some pics! :D

Ninja,

Cletus is a killer too. I feed him bloodworms with a Qtip and he attacks that Qtip like his life depended on it. Once he bit it so hard that when I lifted the Qtip out of the water, Cletus was still attached to it!

Bettas are like mini pitbulls. Jaws of steel :flex:

I don't mind that he's evil, I like it in fact, but I just never heard of one actually jumping out of the water and trying to get you! Hmm, maybe there is some fun in this yet, I know a few people that might stick there finger in there if I tell them to.....

:fish:  then watch the fun begin

(I can almost hear the music. Dun dun, dun dun, dundun.....)

Evil Fish for evil me guess.

Once I had a piece of betta food stuck to my finger, same as you... and Cocoa jumped up and ate it off the tip of my finger! I always feed him like that now  , it doesn't hurt

now that he has the taste of human flesh he will never stop  sleep with one eye open and the betta bowl in the other room because hes gunna get you  he sounds great, my bettas have never biten me but im sure if thye did they could rip a small hole in me. -_-

I had a hamster like that once...your betta is probably a reincarnation. :D

hahaha that would be fun, i hope the next betta i get is like that, i used to have a few that would jump up and eat of my figers

ok..  i got my female betta to bite me but it wasn't a life threatening injurery or anything -_- starte feeding it more maybe it wont think ur food :dunno:

Reincarnation huh? Yeah, first it was the evil gerbil, then years later it was the evil mouse, and now it's come back as evil betta! I better get a dog now before the betta decides to die and come back as a dog..... Good thing is, if he tries to come after me he's gonna end up in a fan that''s next to his tank.... besides, I don't think he could eat an airtank and I don't have a gun......

I'm not sure if i was dreaming this or I actually read it somewhere but it said Betta's have the bite equivalent to a shark, i don't know if theres truth to that :dunno:

You may have read that in a reply to a topic i posted about my betta Arnie biting me!! Id say it was true!!! It REALLY hurts when he bites - he kinda hangs on until i pull him right out of the water!!! :D He's SO cool!

Gee I thought all bettas did that. All 5 of mine bite the food off my finger, and two will repeatedly jump out of the water at my hand as I am getting ready to feed them or siphon water.
It's what I love about them. Btw, the one female I have is the biggest jumper!
