is he ok

hi everyone
my little guy is doing well but he does not look to good...his tummie is a bit fat .iv fed him a pea and that does not seem to have helped, i dont over feed him and he does not have dropsy..also his one gill is sticking out but its not red no white thingies or anything

hes still eating swiming baout and demanding attenshion like normal he just looks kinda funnie..maybe i got a strange one. hes been like this for about 3 weeks and no changes..hes still happy

Was he like this when you got him? Is it his gill..or his gill plate, which covers the gill. Watch him closely to see if his gill starts to get inflamed. I mention parasites alot, but they are a common problem with bettas. Parasites can be internal, and affect the throat area, which can inflame the gills too. Swollen tummys can be different things. It's so hard to diagnose without seeing and watching the fish as the symptoms occur. Any information you can give, such as when and how things started happening, what you see, and how it acts is helpful. Do you check the ammonia level any, or do you just do periodic water changes. Are the water changes 100%, or partial. how big is the tank?Is the betta in the tank alone? If you just do the water changes, how often do you change water and filter? Ammonia can affect the gills quickly. It can cause them to get red and swell. They even bleed when the poisoning gets too bad. Keep watching him, and let us know of his progress.

I agree with Fisherman...as far as the belly goes, have you noticed his excrement at all? If he's not going #2(do they go #1??) then you might have a little constipation, too. Try fasting him once a week, and a varied diet.

ok i will try explain him as much as possible.

his tank: 2g
1 silk plant
no filter
no heater
no friends
water tests normal (checked twice weekly) PH 7
50% water change every 3 days..he get upset if i do sooner
his tank lives next to my bead so he gets to see me heeps


his gill thats trange is his left one its just his gill plate sticking out..the gill is fine normal coulered not red not swollen at all .hes not trying ot scratch it or anything.

his tummie is still fat but he swims fine and i have fasted him and his poop is normal.. and hes still eating normaly and everything

when i first got him he was a bit fat but not this fat and his gill was fine but he did have fin rot and the meds gave him pop eye and then all the cleared up and hes left like that

if u look at him for far away u would not think anything was wrong with him..hes not acting strange at all.maybe hes hurt him self? but i dont know how

i had that happen... it will go away... mind took about 4-6 weeks to go away mine was shall we say chubby but swimmin fine and mines alright... just to make sure it wasnt anything bad i had put in melafix but i know people who say it kills and others who swear by it didnt kill fishy

i also go with fisherman and the constipated idea!! the fasting idea is an awesome one! also he might be having a hard time from water changed but i dont know? make sure you ease water changes...that will help the lil guy a lot! but good luck and i hope he comes around!!!

you have eased my mind.

i did a treatmen of betta fix just incase it was anything.but so far no changes

next week im away for 5 days as im going to cambridge to work with race horses so im going to fast him in that time and hopefully when i come back hes not as fat.
maybe he is just a fat fish he sure does like his food...
