it's quite rare down here, they have been called "orange lazers aeneuns cory!" nice find! :D
Ever wondered why they are rare and have a stupid name? Its because they are a dyed/painted fish, a LFS that i no longer use had them in stock a while back as "Neon Corydoras"

cfc, are U KIDDING? i mean, no offence..dude but um, they are not painted, just because they look painted, they are not, so dont start telling people stuff you are not 100% sure, no offence tho, just go to www.planetcatfish.com

and that site doesn't talk about painted fish AT ALL, just look at all the cory species, they are one of them, also if you look at the catfish of the month , corydoras aeneus you will see all the differnt colors of this species of fish.

i also wanna point another thing out, in inchworm's signature she stated that she also has this kind of cory, do you think the cory expert (imo) will own dyed cories? i think not

Well ive hunted high and low and i cannot find any evidence online that proves this fish is a naturally occuring species or painted, however i still stand by my original statement that this fish is a painted variety, i have seen with my own eyes a tank full of these alongside others with identical but bright green stripes. Planet catfish has no pictures of a C.aeneus with this colouration (the C.aeneus "red stripe" looks similar but IMO is not the same) but it does however warn that this fish is sometimes dyed. The only way to truely find out would be to breed a few and see if the orange stripe is present in the off spring.

C. Aeneus sp.'Orange Laser' is a colour morph of the Bronze Corydoras, which, in my experience, is not dyed. Some orange lasers are much brighter orange than the above picture, and have an orange tint on the entire body.

EDIT: sorry, misspelling.

My first thought when I saw the picture ws that it is a painted fish, but I found another article at PC discussing the breeding of these green/orange/red "laser" Corys, and the fry do, indeed, show the coloured stripes.

Article.

I am still highly suspicious though, it seems odd to me that a whole load of suddenly brightly coloured Corys all hit the market at much the same time. Perhaps not painted, but genetic modification?

It makes you worried about buying any brightly coloured fish ,all this messing about going on,I wanted a parrot but read they are dyed to ,puts me of.

If I'd saw that cory, I'd have bought it because it was nicely coloured.

Exactly what I thought when I first saw that picture - it looks like it's painted. I have never seen a bronze aeneus painted before, but I have seen countless albinos (I believe they are also aeneus) with color that should not be present.

Cute cory though.
