she's a beauty! i agree, the old trains have so much more character than the modern ones. (houses are kind of the same way................)

Incredible pics! :kewlpics:

I love the houses on the mountain in the backgound.

Where were they taken?

They are taken from a place in Wales called Portmadog.... near where thay filmed the prisoner in portmirion:) better than diesel.

I've been there dogg and I think i may have been on that train,i thought it looked familiar.

(No 6 )

Have you ridden that one steam train that goes into the mountains of France? I did, it was a rather interesting ride. This winter, I am gonna ride from STRASBURG PENNSYLVANIA!

Crappy diesels? Whatever makes you happy.

My personal favorite is the aem-7 which is electric. Aem-7 in phase 3. Now thats a nice train. That or NJ Transit's ALP-46. The ALP-46 is actually origionally german.

Actually, if you all live in the northeast, you can probably see a lot of steam locomotives and other old trains at "Hobokenfest 2007". I'll be the first one there! Well, actually, some people from the Railroad.net forums will be there before me. A bunch of em are more rail smart than me.

But like I said, go to strasburg Pennsylvania. They got some good stuff there.

also, a narrow guage tour train is availible for touring in Main. It uses rail from those trains in the old days.

So there are some family fun ideas. Also, they have that train in indea that is steam, and moves so slow on curves, you can jump outand take a photo. It is SO AWESOME. the only thing is I don't wanna go to india cause it is discusting there and I would feel very uncomfortable.

For more info, read the book called "Trains". It has a list of 50 railroad to ride before you die.

I dont mean to be bias but surely the best steam train ride is here in Scotland :D

Takes you up the West coast, through Fort William, Ben Nevis, then out around the isles.

Im not a train person. But this train journey is certainly nice.

Come to Scotland, You'll never know unless you go !

In the last ten years Swiss train manufacturers (Swiss Locomotive and Machine Works) have been researching and developing new hi-tech steam engines. Recently several have been commissioned and are now in service with mountain tourist railways in Switzerland and Austria

The advantage of using modern steam technology is that there is at least an eighty percent reduction of toxic emissions compared to modern diesel powered trains. Instead of steam and toxic gases been emitted, now only steam is sent into the atmosphere leading to obvious benefits to the local environment. From a tourist point of view steam trains are a greater attraction than diesel powered trains.

EDIT
read all Here

Now i'm not a great lover of trains, but i must say this piccy below is the best engine ever :D
