Well, I went to the shop today and had a ball. Recently, I've been asking around for info for my plans to turn the ten gallon I was using for holding fish aside, into a betta + loach tank.

Today, I bought a betta. Seeing as this was my first betta, EVER (time for celebration!) I went for the best betta for a beginner possible. In other words, the one who was healthiest, most curious, and in the cleanest water.

As soon as I came up to the betta rack, this little double tail stopped flaring at his neighbor and swam up to the front of his bowl to look at me. His water was very clean, and he kept swimming up and down in his bowl while I browsed the others. How could I refuse such a perfect candidate (I was sorely tempted to get a plakat, but the long tail actually better fits the aquascape idea I have). I think I picked an ideal fish for my beginner level; he's so active and not the least bit afraid. He didn't cower even for a moment while I was acclimitizing, and then introducing him to the tank, and immediately began investigating the whole tank.

In the cat fish forum, I mentioned I bought Corydoras Barbatus today too, here's the promised pic of them too! Buy 3, get the 4th free! They're in the ten gallon with the betta right now.

"Who are you?"

Best of all, the shop keepers didn't notice he was a double tail, so sold him to me as veil-tail. I saved 3 bucks. :sly: For once, LFs ignorance pays off for the obsessed customer.

This is the only good photo I could get of the cats, but here's the 4 of 'em now.

Eventually this tank is going to be planted with riccia, I'll create a huge bubbling lawn of it as the only decoration except for some rocks on the right side of the tank. Actually, there's a huge cave concealed beneath the rock for the cories. I might switch the cories out for loaches, but I think I'm not sure.

This set up makes for a beautiful meadow look, putting the emphasis on the open space, and the attention on the star of the tank, the betta.

I'm rambling, here are the cories.

Actually, Inchworm informed me that . . . they're not corries anymore!!

They've been moved to the Scleromystax genus! :p

So now, it's Scleromystax barbatus.

They look like corries to me

Learn something new everyday!

Yeah, definitely. I guess the nuts thing is . . . hmm . . . maybe Vip should get some of these. I think they're the only cory that'd fit his personality . . . :p

You see, the males grow sharp barbs by their heads. They are territorial, and constantly scuffle for dominance. Near mating, they may even inflict fatal wounds on each other!

By they're coloring (there is a significant difference, male's head is dark with a light dorsal stripe) I think mine are all female. However, they're still juvenile's so I won't know for sure for a while . . .
