Hello again. I need help with my angel fish, after my angel fish laid her eggs ( she had no mate) I put her in the large tank with the smaller size fish. It is a 55 and has 11 neon tetras, 4 zebras and three small angels. All was well until I saw what I thought was ich on the large angel, I raised the temp and treated with API ich meds. I thought it worked but now the white spots are back and it looks more like water spots on glass than ich. And now two of the small angels are getting it. The other fish show no signs of it. I figured they weren't such fast swimmers it couldn't catch them,ha. I am going to try and upload pictures. Any help with them would be great. Thank you. The 2nd blue back ground is the small one.

Have you added anything new to the tank in the two weeks before this started?

What is the ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH of the water (in numbers)?
What sort of filter is on the aquarium?
How often and how do you clean the filter?

How often do you do water changes and how much do you change?
Do you gravel clean the substrate when you do a water change?
Do you dechlorinate the new water before adding it to the aquarium?

When you raised the temperature to treat the tank, what temperature did you increase it to?

--------------------

Stop adding chemicals unless you know what the problem is. It's preferable to find out exactly what is wrong with the fish before adding medications to prevent un-necessary use of chemicals in their water.

The fish are covered in excess mucous and don't appear to have white spot. Fish are naturally covered in a thin layer of clear mucous to protect them from microscopic organisms in the water and help them move through the water easier. When the fish are stressed out/ irritated by something in the water, they produce more mucous that can appear as a cream, white or grey film over their head, body and fins. Any chemicals, poor water quality, plant fertiliser, medications, etc, can all cause fish to produce more mucous.

Treatment involves doing a big (75%) water change every day for a week to dilute whatever is poisoning them. You should also gravel clean the substrate each time you do a water change, and clean the filter.

--------------------

FIRST AID FOR FISH
Test the water for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH.

Wipe the inside of the glass down with a clean fish sponge. This removes the biofilm on the glass and the biofilm will contain lots of harmful bacteria, fungus, protozoans and various other microscopic life forms.

Do a 75% water change and gravel clean the substrate every day for a week or until the problem is identified. The water changes and gravel cleaning will reduce the number of disease organisms in the water and provide a cleaner environment for the fish to recover in. It also removes a lot of the gunk and this means any medication can work on treating the fish instead of being wasted killing the pathogens in the gunk.
Make sure any new water is free of chlorine/ chloramine before it is added to the tank.

Clean the filter if it hasn't been done in the last 2 weeks. However, if the filter is less than 6 weeks old, do not clean it. Wash the filter materials/ media in a bucket of tank water and re-use the media. Tip the bucket of dirty water on the garden/ lawn. Cleaning the filter means less gunk and cleaner water with fewer pathogens so any medication (if needed) will work more effectively on the fish.

Increase surface turbulence/ aeration to maximise the dissolved oxygen in the water.

I do see some small spots that could be ich. I'd use malachite green for that...but some of those bigger whitish splotches look different than ich. I think you may have 2 diseases. Malachite can help with ich & some other things, but not all.

I'd start with malachite. Do large water changes between treatments. Vacuum the substrate as best you can. You want to remove as much disease organisms as you can. You may need an antibiotic too, but malachite can help a bit.

Too many different drugs at the same time can stress out fish, so pick 1 & finish the treatment before adding another. Lots of water changes are always good!

Like Colin asked, we need more info

The OP has used API Ich medication and that usually contains Malachite Green.

The white film and circles on the fish is excess mucous.

Hi Colin, Thank you for all the information.
Have you added anything new to the tank in the two weeks before this started?
The large Angel fish, a neon tetra, a pearl danio, Seachem Purigen and Martix but less then two weeks, maybe a week ago.
What is the ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH of the water (in numbers)?
Ammonia is between 1.0 and 3.0, it's been running high so I am water changing and added Ammonia lock.
nitrite is 0 and Nitrate is between 20 and 40.
PH is 7.0
GH is 180 and KH is 0
I am using API test dip sticks.
What sort of filter is on the aquarium?
How often and how do you clean the filter?
It is a HOB filter and a corner Sponge filter, sponge is new after I noticed the white stuff, HOB is from my other tank and I have not cleaned it yet :(
How often do you do water changes and how much do you change?
I did one water change since this started, maybe 10%, I was thinking of not removing the meds I had already put in.
Do you dechlorinate the new water before adding it to the aquarium?

When you raised the temperature to treat the tank, what temperature did you increase it to?
I do always dechlorinate new water and I raised the temp to 86.

I know you are right about the Mucous because today some spots are gone and new ones appeared. The younger Silver Angel seems to have it too but the Black two seem okay, also none of the other fish show any signs of it, just these two Angels. I can understand the large Angel being stressed because she just laid eggs and then I moved her to new tank, but not sure why the other silver stressed out.

They are stressed from the water quality. The angel is also probably stressed from being moved out of her old tank and separated from her eggs. There should be 0ppm ammonia, 0ppm nitrite, and nitrates need to be as close to 0ppm and under 20ppm at all times.

If you need to clean sponges or filter media/ materials, just squeeze them out in a bucket of aquarium water. Re-use the media (except carbon or zeolite if there's any, these aren't normally needed in aquariums) and tip the bucket of dirty water on the lawn/ garden outside.

You need to do a 75-90% water change and gravel clean the substrate every day until the ammonia and nitrite levels are on 0ppm.

Okay, I will go buy a new 30 gal trash can for the new water, so I can dechlorinate without having to make a hundred trips with a small bucket, ha. I did a water change yesterday but not even 50%, She looks and feels a lot better today, swimming normal, eating good and most of her body looks free of the mucous, now only the little angels have it, still the silver one and now one of the black ones, it is only on the tail and anal fins and again looks like ich. The substrate I have is sand with a few patches of gravel here and there, Do I still need to clean the sand?
