Hi everyone,
I got a pair of betta macrostoma 4 days ago, the first 2 days all was perfect and cute, yesterday the male's behaviour changed to agresive towards the female, specially during feedings, but in general if he sees her he goes after her, the tank is heavy planted, 85L, we have 3 yoyo loaches, 2 plecos, a lot of cherry shrimps, and 3 kuhli loaches.
We took the yoyo loaches out of the tank but it seems not to help at all, he chases her every time he sees her.
Any advice will be highly appreciated, I have no experience with betta macrostoma and I was told by the breeder that they were good together in the same tank.
Thank you.

Breeding behavior?

Other member posts will have a better idea than me :)

Beautiful fish as well 😍

Hi,

I got this of the net

"
Are betta macrostomas aggressive?

Brunei beauty • Betta macrostoma • Fish sheet

The Betta macrostoma is a rather calm fish, it can live with other individuals of its own species if the volume of the aquarium is sufficient to allow losers of periodic fights to distance themselves. Depending on the individuals, aggression can be more or less strong, they will need to be monitored.

Hope this helps

Thank you, I find out that the light was too strong, I putt it to the minimun and he is good again, I think he got blinded by the strong light and confused the female with a male.
Thank you

Glad to hear the aggression stopped :)

I know snakeheads are a different species but I remember seeing something similar occur once in a YT video. A guy built a massive paludarium for the snakehead with high levels of lighting and the fish always remained in the cave/shaded areas but when the lights he had went onto sunset mode for 30 mins and the lights dimmed the fish came out and even followed him around the tank. Maybe some fish prefer dimmer lighting then?

Yes they do, they like little light, my problem was that we put a ring at the top so the foating plants where away for feeding and then my partner decided to get rid of the floating plants and also trimmed the plants in the tank so a lot of light was coming in, plus the light wasn't at the minimum, poor finishes they were blinded with the strong light.
