“Riparian” most of our popularly collected fish enjoy riparian vegetation in their natural habitat… for fish, this is mostly the roots from shore plants, though a good portion of fish go into seasonal flood plains, and swim among terrestrial plants, temporarily under water…
I have a Pothos vine, that has been growing out of aquarium for a couple years now… it’s a monster… it’s actually growing out of 3 tanks right now, the main tank it was planted in, and it grew over the tanks next to it, one of them being my Hillstream tank, it sent down roots, and is now well rooted in that tank right now… I was going to trim a root ball, that grew down the front of the tank, but it has become a favorite habitat for the Hillstream loaches, and being on the front glass, allows close viewing of several fish, that would be hard to see otherwise… I’ve seen as many as 6 fish in this one root ball, so I’ve decided not to trim it, and am finding beauty in the habitat, rather than my aquascaping…
