Tbh I can't sex mine properly a day they're adults! I can't see the armpit nubs on any of them but one is visibly smaller so I assume he's male. You'll know for sure if you ever find them mating!

Rotating with betta pellets and the brine shrimp for the time being. I don't have a ton of options for live foods where I live though. Used to do live mosquito larvae, but I live in a apartment building with a *shared* backyard and between my neighbors dumping my mosquito bucket last year and then using pesticides this year, I'm not risking that route anymore. Not until we move.

A flat stone sounds great. In the meantime, I would definitely recommend feeding with tweezers/tongs. It allows you to better control how much food each frog gets and ensures that they aren’t eating substrate with food. A pipette still allows food to fall down unless the frogs are ready and able to catch the food directly from the tip of the pipette.

As for types of food, you can feed pellets, but I’d get frog/tadpole pellets and soak them before feeding since hard, dry food can cause impaction. Same thing with freeze-dried foods, soak them beforehand.

I only feed my frogs frozen food. I use mysis shrimp as a staple with brine shrimp as an occasional treat. I’ve heard brine shrimp aren’t as ideal as a staple food because they aren’t as nutritious. If you decide to get mysis shrimp, what I’d do for your tiny guys is just shave a small chunk off of the block instead of thawing the whole thing. That way, you waste less food (they don’t need to eat a lot) and by shaving off a piece, you end up chopping the mysis shrimp into smaller bits that the frogs will actually be able to eat.

When you’re feeding, look for just a slightly rounded tummy. They shouldn’t look big and round.

As for sexing, they’re still juveniles, so you won’t know for a while. I’ve never heard of using the tails for sexing. Both sexes have tails afaik. The best way is size and the subdermal glands behind the front arms.

I got their flat rock which I use a syringe to drop their food to.

Also found some ZooMed Aquatic Frog micro sized pellets at the store, so adding that into their diet roster.


They've gained weight! No longer the scrawny things from the store, they have filled in.

I usually buy frozen brine shrimp because I can get a bulk deal on it since they raised the prices on frozen foods locally these days, and I don't feed my fish bloodworm anymore. I can pay $12 for one pack of frozen food, or I can pay $18 and get a double pack of brine shrimp lol you can see why I buy the brine double pack when I've got multiple aquariums. Mysis shrimp is sometimes available, but not as a dual pack.

That said, I wouldn't be opposed to buying bloodworm for these guys... can they eat it as part of their diet rotation?

They can, I've heard it should be a rare treat as I've read some people saying it causes bloat, not sure if there's direct evidence for that but I try to bear it in mind just in case. Mine have never taken to pellets but do love brine shrimp.

Mine do take the frog pellets and betta pellets happily. They seem to be very eager eaters which is fun to watch.

They're quite entertaining little guys, I'm very happy with this choice of stock.

Not a lot has changed scapewise, but I think I'm starting to see gland development on BOTH my frogs, so leaning towards both being boys. Mostly in the blond one, a red bump under both arms has developed. The grey one it's a faint white spot forming, so still could be nothing but anyways.

The Aponogeton is booming. Sending out a lot of floating leaves. Tannins have kept things fairly dim. Added the heater since temperatures are dropping here.


And frog pics. They have really fattened up, they really love frozen food the most. One even tried to eat the other one over the frozen food

I bought new botanicals today and they're sitting in my tanks floating while they waterlog... and it seems my adf prefer them floating? Didn't expect to see this dude sitting out of the water singing. Kinda neat.



Now I have to find a way to keep some parts of the botanicals up top for them lol they seem to enjoy that a lot.

And this picture of one of them sitting in the bolbitis makes me laugh.
