Tank size: 20 gallon long asian themed community
Stock:
Rasbora sarawakensis
Pangio sp
Bamboo shrimp
Assorted elderly fish (couple cherry barbs, pseudomugil)

GH 5°
KH 3°
pH 7
Temperature 75F (May get a little warmer in summer months, but I don't heat it in summer)

Filtration is a DIY above tank planter sump, powered by an internal pump. Brings tank volume closer to 25 gallons instead of 20 gallons. Heater is hidden inside the filter.

The elderly fish are living out whatever they have left, I mean the cherry barbs alone are like 6-7 years old and I dont plan to add more as they dwindle, same for the pseudomugil gertrudae who are younger but old for their respective lifespans. Theyre nearing their 3rd year which is ancient already for them as they average out 1-2 years expenctency.

Going forward this tank will remain the sarawakensis and pangio. I dont even know bow many pangio there are. Couple years ago my pangio doriae spawned and given i dont see every single loach out at once, i cannot tell you how many babies survived. I just ended up counting an extra that i didnt have to start, so who the heck knows. I know theres upward of 20 in there at least 🙃

that said, nitrates are negligible in this tank if i dont dose fertilizer. Its still more stocked than id like, but the other "retirement" tank is too warm for the barbs and too many bigger fish thatd eat the pseudomugil, so this tank was the best retirement option for them.

Plants are all asian originated plants, plus cladophora algae. I purposely use the algae in this tank, as I want a more natural appearance for this one.

This is my 20 long aquarium

These are the inhabitants (i suppose mod will eventually remove them):

-
This is my a sp Blutkehl aquarium. It has 4 otto m/f a. sp Blutkehl (now known as ab) and 6 n. mortenthaleri. The large e's in the back are big bears and the small ones are well surprisingly small bears. It has been setup for around 9 months and demonstrates that less is more as plants grow wonderful in ec 24.

They are not going to be happy with the results but i will tell them promptly how it goes; Here is the date picture - if you zoom in you will see mom with her kids and how they have grown since i took the picture of mom above. They are going to be a bunch of something swarming little bees soon.

Hi gang,
Here is my 29 gallon tank.
Flora includes, Red Tiger Lotus, Ludwigia Ovalis, Guppy grass, Anubias Congensis, Anubias Nana Petite, Java Moss, Christmas moss, Siamesis Corymbosa, African Water fern and Java Fern Windelov
Residents are 4 adult Panda Cory's (breeding) 3 baby Panda Cory's, Blue Velvet shrimps and 3 Nerite snails, Red Racer, Zebra Striped, and a big black one called Rocky cuz he looks like one.
You'll cough at my filtration but it works, especially now that moss covers the intake sponge on my Quietflow hob.
I also have two bubblers going, hilarious watching the corys bubble surf
Enjoy

This is my 20 gallon South American tank! I’ve tried to do it in a naturalistic, biotope style. The sticks and leaves are from my own backyard.

Inhabitants:
Three keyhole cichlids
One glow light tetra (remnant from a group)

I plan to add some neons soon, and I might try to add another peaceful South American fish if we ever get anything cool in the store.

This is my 29 gallon tank.
It houses 1 Peppered Cory, 1 Black Skirt Tetra (survivor from a larger group), and 11 BN Plecos . The Plecos are about one year old now.

I previously also had 2 adult BN Plecos which spawned. The result of the spawn was 66 Pleco fry. I was not expecting fry and I surely had no need for more Plecos. I gave the two adult Plecos to my LFS as I don't want them to spawn again which would result in another 60+ Pleco fry. I also gave 55 of the Pleco fry to my LFS. There are 11 Plecos left in my tank. I will take most of them to my LFS if I can catch them...they swim away very quickly when trying to net them.

I feed 3 or 4 algae wafers every other day and feed some flakes once a day. As a treat, I occasionally feed frozen brine shrimp. The 11 hungry Pleco finish off the algae wafers after a few hours.

The tank has a 150 watt heater and a Marineland 200 filter. I replaced the filter cartridge with sponge and floss. I clean the sponge once a month in tank water and replace the floss at that time. There also a large air pump powered sponge filter on the right side of the tank. On the left side of the tank, I have a bubbling airstone. The lighting is one 18 watt fluorescent tube.

Plants are Anubias. Anubias grow well in a low light tank such as mine. There is a large arch shaped Malasian driftwood in the tank. The fish often swim through the archway. I made two "caves" for either side of the tank using flagstone and rocks. The Plecos like to hang out on top of the cave and sometimes under the cave. The substrate consists of pool filter sand. There is a fair amount of algae for the 31 Pleco fry to munch on.

End of Entries:
Slowly scroll upward as you review the 5 awesome entries and then in the poll at the top of this thread, click on your choice for Tank of the Month. Be sure to click the CAST button to register your vote.

Coming up in the middle of this month, we will start accepting entries for our Fish of the Month contest. For October's contest, we will feature ANY FRESHWATER FISH. We usually have a bimonthly FOTM contest for a particular species, but once a year we allow ANY FISH to be entered in the contest. If you have a favorite species of fish, now is the time to enter it. Or if you have an unusual "oddball" type fish, this is your opportunity to show it off.

While everyone's tanks are great, I mostly vote on my gut feeling after 2 or 3 looks. I try hard not to choose someone's pic based on already being familiar with it & them. You guys often make it hard to pick a "winner". It's all so subjective. Some have awesome picture taking skills; some great landscaping or amazing fish. I sometimes forget what the contest is for. I try hard to be fair, but it can be difficult to choose.

No one is ever fair that is just how life is - so why try ?

It is hard to choose. There's many good aspects to each entry that make it stand out in its own way and it's hard being able to only pick one when you want to pick them all lol

I love the contests, I love seeing other people's tanks. For me, it's all fun. When it comes to voting, yeah, I'll have to go through all the entries again and it's so hard sometimes to pick.

Sour grapes anewbie? LOL, I am just teasing since I sorta know you.

Since everyone can see my votes, I do give it more thought than "just for fun" or hitting the like button. I take my voting seriously in many things, but mostly I like to see other's tanks, fish, plants & other pets. I can't easily post pics (no working smart phone) but you all have better tanks & mostly cuter fish & other pets than I have, right now anyway...Maybe someday...

All of these aquariums are great . I would vote for them all but I picked one that looks like one that I would do if I thought of it . Every new member to The Great TFF Forum should be automatically referred to the various contest entries so they can see what a diverse level of skills and talents we have here .

We are off to a good start with 25 votes so far.

But we have a lot more than 25 members. If you haven't already, it's time to cast YOUR vote.
