Well that’s never happened before… plant got too big… hanging pot clip failed…

This Chinese Evergreen has grown massive since I set up this tank, and the clips that hold it up failed… it’s not hurt anything when it fell in, at least for the short term but this tank is built in, and at it’s size, and location, it’s going to be a challenge to fix and put it back… it’s supposed to be clipped to the top, with the roots in the water, and the greenery shading the tank above the water

It happened sometime over the night, this morning, at 1st light several fish are exploring their new habitat… I guess that shows really how much plant is there, there are 8 of them in this tank

This is why Zeus created coated gardening wire, and why Thor delivered it to every dollar store in the nation. It's very easy to hold large terrestrial plants up with it. I have a gigantic peace lily in and on the 75 gallon I plan to rescape today, and it's held in place by part of a roll of dollar store plant wire. I hope you can still get it, as it's seasonal here.

I use it on every roots in plant here, to keep them in place when the usual lousy supports that come with pots fail. I use a lot of dollar store cutlery holders and they seem to get their suction cups at the same factory aquarium equipment suppliers use. A little coated wire, and you're good for years. You can also attach to stems, and hold potless plants.

I make my own from stainless tig welding wire, as I wasn’t happy with the plastic clips… but I’ve improved my design, just about every time I’ve added new plants ( so the design has been improved 4 or 5 times, since this one went in ) I may have to remove 4 or 5 of the other plants, to get at this one, to make the needed repairs… I was just thinking the other day, that this has become one of my better setups… just a little unexpected maintenance…

I was going to do a post on one of my Pothos vines, that is 10 feet from my South American tank, it’s growing out of, one of the runners ran into a wall, and is pulling a U turn, and it’s nearly a 1/2 inch thick vine that far from the tank… I’m really getting a jungle, above and behind these tanks… the plants are loving these new LED lights.. .

I’m going to have to disappoint 2 of the Electric Blue Acaras, that seem to find this change in their surroundings to their liking

You know what Man ? Those built in aquariums of yours are just too cool . I love the lighting in the room they’re in too . I could sit there and zone out and watch fish all day . That’s way different than how most guys set up things .

Well I got the plant out of the depths today, and a cause was found… a new plant had started somehow through one of the slots on the side of the pot, between the pot and the aquarium, and pushed it away from the glass… trimmed this off,, but will have to give some thought, before reinstalling it, as hard as that plant is to maintain in that spot…. Snapped this off, it was growing between the pot and the glass, pushing it away, so it eventually fell into the tank…

My peace lily had done the same. A new plant grew in front of the original plant and started to push the lid away from the back of the tank. I've had to trim the lid 3 times since I set up the tank . I'm considering making a new lid with larger gaps now. Especially since I'll need the room for an external filter inlet/outlet now.

Well this is the new setup… I moved the plant to the other side ( there was one over there… now two ) that is the side I service the tank from, so easier maintenance… I’ll have to reach around it to feed, actually over the top of the hang on tank filter… the Java ferns happy to not having the Chinese Evergreen sitting on them… they’ll be getting more light, not living in the shade of the other plant….
