I know this one is not huge, and a long time ago we tried to do a small group of them, but they didn’t get along this bachelor has been here for over a year, is a great gardener, keeps the adult Tin Foils in line, and doesn’t touch even the smallest of Hillstream’s or bother the Denison’s…

I tried to get some of the wild type, green ones, but have never seen them available from any of the suppliers I buy from…

Anyway, this guy has been a good fit so far, in this tank….

If you keep asking strangers about their lips, one of them's going to give you smack right in the kisser.

When I was a kid, one of my uncles had a kissing gourami that got really big. That was in the balanced aquarium era, and since that species can live in outrageous filth, it did well until it got too big for his tank, and died.

I've read they like to eat enormous, 24/7 veggie based meals, and that fish farms (for food fish) will dump cattle manure and agricultural roughage into their ponds. If they are constantly fed they'll reach over a foot in no time, but on aquarium fare, they're usually stunted or very slow growing.

Mine is a little over a year old, and goes almost 6 inches… wondering how “ugly” it’ll be at a couple years old… can’t say I remember seeing a picture of a really big kisser… but some of the giants get pretty grumpy looking at maturity…

I still wouldn’t mind finding a wild type green, just because you never see them anymore…

And just to say that naughty word again… seems like farmed Gouramis would be ripe with TB

This one doesn’t look to grotesque…

Most farmed gouramis are food fish. The popularity of the species has dropped through the floor over recent years, but apparently, in spite of the gross diet, they taste good.
