I have a betta tank (about 5 gallons) and in it I have:
-2 Amazon swords
-log
-1 betta
-snail infestation šŸ˜
-assassin snail
-a couple red rocks
-a hair algae issue (could use some advice on this one)
-the plants on the log
-a little bit of guppy grass that came in on something
-a lack of a lid
-I do use flourish iron supplements and flourish advanced supplements
-very hard water

I'm listening for other's advice on the hair algae issue. I have a 5 gallon with a bad issue. I've been manually removing alot of it and using API CO2 booster everyday. It has helped but the hair algae is still there. I also use Seachem Flourish twice a week for about 2 months now.

I had a white hair algae issue in my 5 gal betta tank too a while back!!! But it was not plantedā€¦ just fake plants and decorationsā€¦ heated, led lights, in tank tetra filter, and air bubbler, with black gravel substrate. The tank wasnā€™t fully cycled when I was experiencing the algae. I moved my betta into a 10gal cycled tank, and broke down the 5 gal and scrubbed everything w hot water and vinegar and replaced the filter cartridge and started over lol not sure this was the most efficient choice but it worked. I cycled the tank took about 6 months and then got another betta and added it and heā€™s doing well so I guess I did okay. Iā€™ve been doing water changes more frequently than before and no algae so far.

Donā€™t use plant fertilizers in small aquariums . The fish are enough of a fertilizer for your plants . If you feel the need then use only a fraction of the dose ( 1/4 or less ) on water change day . I think those chemical fertilizers affect other things too and not in a good way . Just the opinion of a miserly old man that hates to spend money .

This is the dosage I use in smaller tanks.

This is for a 5 gallons tank that has effectively 4 gallons of water without decor and substrate.

I use Flourish.
Excel: quarter dose (5ml/10=0.5mlX4g=2ml/4=0.5ml) = 10 drops / week
Iron: quarter dose (5ml/50=0.1mlX4g=0.4ml/4=0.1ml) = 2 drops / week
Trace: quarter dose (5ml/20=0.25mlX4g=1ml/4=0.25ml) = 5 drops / week

Edit: correction on product name.
